The Mountain Hunting Thread

I’m so excited to be able to post is this thread now. It’s because of this thread I now live in BC with my wife and 4 kids. After seeing the pics in this thread there was no way I could live anywhere else. I had to go, Aug 14 2018 was when I realized I needed to live here, May 1 2021 I showed up with all my stuff and family. So, in less then 3 years I made it happen. I got a job here then quit my job of 16 years and never looked back.

This was my first big game hunt in BC and my first ever successful big game hunt. I’m self taught with the help of others on the forums. I’ve deer hunted a few times in NS but never got one. So I’m super excited to have a 8” billy as my first successful hunt.

My 11-year-old daughter Brooklyn and I went on a 11 day fly in/out hunt near Iskut. It was a total DIY hut but I can’t say it was all my own doing lots of people helped in the planning.
On day 10 we got the goat; we flew out on day 11. We saw over 30 goats on the trip, on this trip I laid my eyes on the first mountain goat I have ever seen (the lone goat 500m away on a cliff in one of the pics). I had a sheep tag too but didn’t even see one sheep. We spend 5 days at the lake fishing and 5 days above the tree line hunting. It was a vacation/adventure trip.

I sighted my rifle in at the lake with a new scope (vortex diamondback 3-9x40) it was great 2” high at 100, used half my ammo up, so I only had 10 rounds left, then I missed a shot at 300m by over 5 feet high and to the right, so I realized I must have banged my scope or something happened, I took the scope and mount off my rifle and used Iron sights.

So I ended up using a Lee Enfield No1 made in 1911 sporterized by parker hale (it’s a custom no1) and iron sights with reloaded 150gr ammo at 2500fps. This is the first center fire i ever owned and the first rifle i ever bought.

Well, enough talking here are a few pics

but this thread changed the course of my life in a major way. I left my job of 16 years as a manual machinist and moved my wife and 4 kids across Canada to chase my dream of living/ hunting in the mountains.
Way to get after it, and make those dreams happen! Congrats on your goat, and thanks for sharing your adventure with us!

That is frukin awesome man!! No “fancy” super light long range flat shooting rifle(to my eyes your rifle is fancy and looks fantastic!)
No head to toe camo, bringing your daughter along, makes it even better in my book!
You haras dream, you made it come through! You are a happy man!
I did the same 25 years ago when I left Quebec, not speaking English and moved to the Yukon!! Still not regretting it!!

pretty incredible journey from ns to a mountainside in BC with a goat in hand.
Mad respect for the rifle you used as well. I regularly hunt with mine as well but I would probably have taken my 7mm mag ruger on that hunt.
Congrats on a fine harvest and thanks for sharing the adventure

Was it hard to learn English? My 30 year old cousin can only speak french and is too nervous to leave Quebec lol!

A few pictures from a fly-in sheep hunt in Spatsizi this August. Great hunt, beautiful weather, everything went well, found sheep and lots of rams but sadly no full curls to be found. Amazing country though.
