All joshing aside, the Ruger has many good points in it's favor and I am planning to build one as a stubby bush gun with a 20inch bbl. For me this would make a great fun gun to work up a load for.
But it still would take second place in my rack.

As soon as I saw the Ruger Alaskan I new I had to have one. I like the feel of the stock and the barrel is just the right thickness and at 20 inches is just right for the bush. The first ones they produced had some feeding problems with the 416 but it was fixed supposedly by polishing the bolt rails. I have seen reloading supplies in stores but the rifles are still scarce. Factory loads are about $75. I will also be reloading but there is some speculation that the factory loads have a blended powder. I like my 378 but I think it will be staying home now. Might even pick up a used 375 next year.

Do ya think a 375HH would be a good choice on a sheep hunt?

Bartells buddy hunts stones with a .375 H&H Win Mdl70.

My Alaskan wouldn't be out of place on a sheep hunt, although its a fw ounces heavier than I would prefer.

Well gate you done went and did it. Talked me into another 375. I bought one today. Now I guess I'll have sell my 9.3

You don't have to sell anything, 9.3's a re pretty cool....but congrats on the NEW KING;)

The magazine on "Bruno" holds enough rounds for a 2 week hunt. Sheep, elk, moose, goat with 2 remaining for ill-mannered Gbears. Its a one-shot wonder killing tool.

Yes, Holland & Holland the gunmaker has sold LESS of thier proprietary caliber than Ruger has.

There's no way I'm reading 50+ pages of this but are you really comparing how many mass produced American rifles in 375 cal that Ruger has sold with the number of hand made English rifles in 375 cal H&H has sold? Sort of like comparing the sales of Ford Mustangs to the sales of Aston Martins no?

BTW I don't have a dog in this fight since I have never shot any 375 nor do I need one... but if someone in Southern Ontario wants to let me take the Pepsi challenge with his 375s I'll be happy to try...

I am saying that Holland and Holland has sold fewer .375 H&H rifles in 98 years than Ruger has sold .375 Rugers, in a couple of years.

Ruger has put more .375 caliber rifles into the hands of hunters in 2-3 years, than H&H has done in almost a century.

And Miley Cyrus has more Top 40 hits than Beethoven, Bach and Mozart combined. What does that really mean? How many .375 H&H rifles have Remington, Browning, Winchester and other mass producers built in that time?

:D

What it means is: Ruger has put more .375 caliber rifles into the hands of hunters in 2-3 years, than H&H has done in almost a century.

And Miley Cyrus has made more money!

If the only way to get a .375 bore rifle was to purchase an H&H, I probably wouldn't have one. H&H builds fine rifles for the African bush, but the Ruger Alaskan is a better rifle for North American hunting conditions than is an uber expensive H&H. I used a beautiful custom shop M-70 .375 H&H in Tanzania, but between the two, I would still prefer a Ruger Alaskan for use in the Hudson Bay lowlands. I could have bought 3 Ruger Alaskans for the cost of my custom Brno 602, but the Ruger was not available then. Cost aside, if I had to choose between the Ruger and my Brno, it would be a tough choice, and the only real advantage my Brno has is it's ability to fling 380 gr bullets with more authority.

Are you saying Holland and Holland would have sold more rifles if they were chambered in 375 Ruger ??

Isn't that a rather unfair comparison when you consider things like price difference and especially quality of workmanship.
Regardless of chambering, Ruger probably makes more rifles in a year than H&H have ever made..

There are very few things made in jolly old England that I would ever consider purchasing.
In fact, I cant think of a single thing.
