The new P226 Elite Platinum

How do you guys find for grip size on Sigs? I have pretty small hands. Thanks.

Patrick,
I wear a size medium for most types of gloves and I find the 226 to be just a little big on the double action trigger pull. The single action seems fine.

I started shooting last summer and while I was still quite green I held a 226 and it seemed huge to me. I didn't feel comfortable with the controls at all. My hands are still the same size but now that i have a few thousand rounds under my belt with a couple different guns I shot one last week and it seems much more manageable. I was recently putting some serious thought into buying a 226 and adding the Sig short trigger. I ended up ordering a 229 instead but depending on how I like it I might still go for a 226 as well.

For me I love the looks of the SIGS above all, but looks are secondary. Their functionality is what drew me to it. As for the looks of the platinum....meh. I prefer the elite wood grips. Here is my P220 Elite.

Highjack! (Cont'd)

Questar is the best thing going in the Canadian firearms business by a wide margin. I like my local shop (Reliable) a lot, but nobody... and I mean nobody... is doing half of what Mark and Questar are doing to provide unique quality gear to the Canadian market.

In the past 6 months I've bought from Questar:
- a SIG 239 TAC
- a RRA 9mm AR-15
- a SIG 228R

Three excellent products, and three excellent products that you cannot buy anywhere else. No one else will even bother to bring the stuff in. Is that worth something? You bet it is. The prices they charge are reasonable. People who slag Questar on this board, makes me want to barf. I see it in my business (lawyer) every day of the week. Everybody wants something for nothing; below market rates; drop the tax, split the difference, etc., etc. If you can't afford it, don't call. Obtain the products or services yourself.

+1 Mark is my hero. As for the abuse, I forgive him his small tresspass in light of the constant flak he takes from broke idiots who want something for nothing. For such a conservative environment, I'm suprised to see so much sense of entitlement.

Quit whining and pay what is being asked or don't buy. Simple as that.

Tired of getting screwed by "the system"? Then do something about it. Become a Canadian Manufacturer, so we don't have to rely on exports. Become an importer so we have more competition. Become a retailerso we have more choice and competition on that front.

OR

STFU!

No to rain on anybodys parade but the Sig beavertail is a really bad idea brought out by Sig.

The beavertail equipped Sigs are getting bad reviews down south.

YMMV.

I've got a p226 Elite w/beavertail. I've got no problems with it. I don't know if I really needed it, I don't think the P226 is known for hammer bite.

Questar rocks...and no one buy that 226. I'm saving up for it. So yeah, this thread is pointless as it's sold already, yeah that's it...it's sold already.....sorry guys....oh well...sold sold sold....please move on...nothing to see here!!!

I bought a Sig 226 off Questar before the dollar exploded. Great gun. Only thing I dont like is the trigger reset on it.

Is it one of those 229 frame/228 slide hybrids with destroyed M11 stampings on the frame that they are selling in the States?

The guns we received are made in Germany 228's... they made a limited run of these with Rails and they are just being released into the US market during the past couple weeks.

There are no "destroyed M11 stampings on the frame"... at least not that we can see... in fact they look damn good to me ;)

This is what I mean by destroyed M11 stampings:

As you can see, the silver squares cover up what used to be U.S. and M11 stampings. The story I heard is that Sig had a bunch of leftover M11 frames but could not sell guns with military designations to the average joe. That's why the stampings had to be destroyed. Most P228Rs sold in the States come with these ugly silver squares.

If you look at the picture I posted of an actual gun we received... there are no such markings or silver squares... so these are NOT the same as the guns you describe.

Those squares look a lot like a data matrix code, at least in the pictures. It seems like an odd way to try and wipe out the markings otherwise, especially as they seem to still be visible.

Or I'm right out to lunch, a not unheard of occurrence.

This is probably out of the price range your looking for but if your saving up for a SIG and it's the only SIG you want, you can't beat the X5.The X5 takes a good shooter and makes him a great shooter. Really.

Nah, that's not a matrix code, although it's an interesting idea. The M11 is not supposed to have any codes on the frame:

Since you say "the Sig beavertail is a really bad idea" can you say what specifically was your personal bad experience with a beavertail equipped 226? Or are you just speaking through someone elses report?

When I'm about to put down some considerable amount of cash on a new gun I research it.

Here's what I found out from Todd Louis

I was at SIG when the first beavertail gun, the Elite, came out. I found out about it when the press release came out, and immediately sent my boss an email kvetching about it. I was the only person in the company shooting SIGs competitively (many of my trophies hang in the halls of the HQ building) but I was kept completely in the dark about the Elite. When I complained -- and pointed out that the beavertail looked poorly thought out -- my boss's response was, "If you want a job in engineering, send me a resume."

The beavertail has two problems, one major and one minor.

The major problem is that it actually forces your hand lower on the frame than you can achieve without the beavertail. As such, it actually increases muzzle flip.

The minor problem is that the beavertail makes it very difficult to put your thumb on the hammer while holstering, something that should be SOP with anyone using a hammer-fired gun, especially one without a manual safety.

The beavertail was put on the gun because someone in the Marketing department thought it would look cool and sound good on a list of "improvements."

The guns look fantastic Mark. Really looking forward to receiving mine. I'll do up a report with pictures for the guys on this board.

The M11 markings thing is old news. There were a few of those in the States, but they have been shipping normal 228Rs for some time now.

228's have "B" serial numbers. 229's have "AX"-type serial numbers. It is not the same thing, at least not any more than saying that the original 229's (without rails) were just "left over 228 slides" found on the shop floor... or whatever it is people are saying about the new 228s. These new 228 are new guns made in Germany. New slides, new frames, new barrels. Nothing is left over from anything else.

These 228s are going to rock! Buy now or forever #####-your-peace on CGN and WTB adds in the EE :D

I was never a big fan of Sigs until I saw this.

I just have a few questions. Why is the price tag 1200$? Thats just hurts. Also is it possible to get a .22 conversion kit for it? How do you guys find for grip size on Sigs? I have pretty small hands. Thanks.

Patrick,

Well our Canadian dollar is weaker now than 6 months ago. In regards to small hand, if this model is the same size grip as regular SIG 226 and you wear size 9 glove, you should be fine.
