The new Tikka T1X Rimfire

Got to the range today, mostly playing with loads for my CTR but I did bring the T1x out for a quick run. Shot 10 Winchester Wildcat, 60 CCI SV, buddy shot ten Federal Blue box. I worked the bolt slow, fast, and clunkily like flicking the bolt up with a finger then pulling back in a second step, and not one functioning issue. Temp was -10C and I didn’t wear gloves so I kind of rushed through. Using the rifle it does feel more like a Tikka, very smooth and precise with a great trigger - my buddy said it was too light but I think it’s perfect. Here are some targets, all CCI SV:

8 shot group at 100m in the circle, with the upper group of 12 or so shots including scope adjustments (plus the 30 cal). I know my shooting would have been off at least an additional inch so the rifle did better than it looks - I was very cold and I believe the shots went right where I called them.... I’m confident this will do MOA at 100m.

It’s supposed to warm up later this week and I plan to try it again... I don’t plan to shoot expensive ammo in this so I’m happy it seems like it might like the CCI

I intend yo shoot CCI SV in it, but now i’m going to have to source a box of those two just to try!
 
You're killing me here.. lol. Don't be showing us pics like that unless there's a range report due in the next couple days. Suspense isn't good for old guys like me..
If that shoots well, this is going to get it's synthetic pajamas back for the foreseeable future.

Yeah I like it too, earlier today I took the recoil pad off the varmint stock to see how good of a cheek weld I get before I start removing material from the hunter stock. I had decided earlier to stick with the varmint but when I put the hunter back I got worked up again!
 
For anyone interested this is from an email I received from KRG.

an unmodified chassis will not work with the T1x due to the magwell size and placement. However, we are working on a version for the T1x and it should debut at SHOT.

I, too, like the wood stock a great deal more than the synthetic one. I wish the rifle would have been available with a walnut stock. This one was from a T3 Hunter.

For anyone wondering about what's involved, some information has been provided earlier in this thread. But here's what I did, and it is fairly simple and easy to do.

The bottom piece (plastic material here but bottom metal on other rifles) of the T1X has a "pin" behind the rear action screw hole. That pin acts as sort of an anchor for the bottom piece It is plastic and about .25" or so long. A 1/8" diameter hole needs to be drilled into the stock to accommodate the "pin". That's easy with a battery operated hand drill. Just take time to be careful. See the photos below. The top photo shows the "pin". It needs a hole to go in on the stock behind the rear action screw.

A little bit of wood has to be removed to accommodate the magazine well. I did this with a small sanding drum on a Dremel. Be careful not to touch the outside of the stock with the Dremel as it can be quick and unforgiving.

The entire job doesn't take long. But care and caution will help keep the stock unblemished

Good info there is a lot of confusion on the wood stock fitting. How much wood did you have to remove for the mag well? It looks like about 1/16” to 1/8” each side for my stock
edit: The wood to be removed would be under 1/8”, probably about 1/16"

So we might be establishing a variance, mine will be at least 2mm each side. Is yours a T3 or T3x? I don't think they’re different (wood stocks) but it would be nice to verify. I’m planning to take mine out again with the original stock with T3 recoil pad to test the cheek weld. If I like it then I’ll do the wood stock but if not I’ll stick with the Varmint stock for the cheek rest. I’ll post results if I do alter the hunter.

Picked up a T1X yesterday. Where are you guys getting your 25 Moa bases/ rings?
Yodave, I found one supplier with the FX rings but they were out of stock. Have you ordered yours and from who?
I’m planning on running the Covenant from Cabela’s with the 44 mm objective and 30 mm tube.

AGS in ontario has the FX rings, 89 bucks
