So I have been looking for a nice short quick handling rifle for general woods duty. I have looked at the Ruger scout rifle, cause .308 is a great all round calibre. but for the money and being a bolt, I wasn't sold. I have a Marlin 336w, and while it is a great rifle, at 20 inches a little long. So I happened to be browsing Ellwood Epps site, and saw the Marlin 336Y. After looking into it, I figured why not? A 30.30 with a 16.25 inch barrel and while designed as a youth rifle, is only an inch or so short length of pull than my 336w. So I bought one. I am liking it, it has become my go to rifle. It is light enough and small enough to go anywhere, with a decent calibre to handle most events. I had been looking at the Scout rifle concept by Jeff Cooper, and feel this fits the idea very well. Especially when you add in the Hornady Leverevolution ammo.

Thoughts?

Short rifle

Bought a Marlin 94 in 44mag a few years ago. Pretty nice for a camp gun, then found a Rossi Ranch Hand 44 mag. Put on a carbine butt stock and now have a Really Short camp gun. OAL 26 1/2 inches. Not thrilled with the large loop, mods are in the works.
