So I have been looking for a nice short quick handling rifle for general woods duty. I have looked at the Ruger scout rifle, cause .308 is a great all round calibre. but for the money and being a bolt, I wasn't sold. I have a Marlin 336w, and while it is a great rifle, at 20 inches a little long. So I happened to be browsing Ellwood Epps site, and saw the Marlin 336Y. After looking into it, I figured why not? A 30.30 with a 16.25 inch barrel and while designed as a youth rifle, is only an inch or so short length of pull than my 336w. So I bought one. I am liking it, it has become my go to rifle. It is light enough and small enough to go anywhere, with a decent calibre to handle most events. I had been looking at the Scout rifle concept by Jeff Cooper, and feel this fits the idea very well. Especially when you add in the Hornady Leverevolution ammo.
