Hey All;

I thought I would start a thread specifically devoted to all the deer hunters planning on using a NON-PC firearm to take their deer this year!

Let's hear what your planning on using! Rifle & ammo please...

Personally, I'm going to be using my Tavor with 64 grain Winchester PowerPoints when deer season (rifle) opens next week in Eastern Ontario.

Cheers
Jay

I used my CZ858 with Hornady 150gr BTSP (.308) in Northwestern Ontario a couple weeks ago. Passed on a doe and a small buck and did not take a deer, but we did have plenty of fun shooting that rifle back at camp!

Nice choice gps! I also have an 858, but decided to go with the Tavor to show it off to my buddies dad who's 75 & hunts with a Win 88 in 308. Ha ha ha, I look forward to his reaction!

Bring on the bucks!

Cheers
Jay

The Tavor took down a 5 pointer last year, no problem. Matter of fact, it did a lot of damage to the meat.
When I get my CORE, i'm going to be using my Tavor for deer. Good for you, Jay.

I would really like to use one of these in 7mm-08, or .260Rem.:(

Ok, let me get this out of the way before anyone else chimes in:

What? Your planning on using a .223 for deer? That's unethical! You need at least a .30-06 or better yet, a .300 WSM. It's not only a better choice because we have to look good in front of non-hunters, it'll also give you the range you need when you try taking those 800 yard shots...

And

A Tavor? Aren't those illegal? And that's only a .223! That's unethical! You need at least a .30-06 or better yet, a .300 WSM. It's not only a better choice because we have to look good in front of non-hunters, it'll also give you the range you need when you try taking those 800 yard shots...

:p

Looking foward to the pictures.

And the replies from the guys who don't understand sarcasm, and theirs lots of them.

Take pictures, send them to the CFO, CSSA , NFA and the hunting magazine, so we will all know it's a "Common hunting rifle in Canada"

I'm also getting an RFB! ...

From whom? I know Kel-Tec is working on exporting them and they sound determined enough about it, but I haven't noticed that any retailers in Canada are Kel-Tec dealers. The RFB will probably be pretty expensive by my standards, but if if isn't restricted, I'm going to be interested.

I made some handloads with 62grn Barnes TSX bullets. The ol' XCR shoots them very well.I'll probably take it to the stand for an afternoon or two:cool:
And if I have some Wheaties for breakfast I might take my Troy chassied shortie M14s.

Vault Distribution has distributor rights for Kel Tec products and has had a Canadian version manufactured: non restricted and officially chambered in .308, not the scary Military equivalent that the state department is afraid of. Check out their site: vaultdistribution.com and if interested, let your local dealer know you want one and they can arrange for a shipment. I think the retail will be more than $2k but less than an XCR...
