the official why i didnt get a deer thread

I smacked a 3 pointer ( just barely a 3 ) meat buck 4 weeks ago with my .338 Federal at around 250+ yards. I won't put any pics up because I shot it in the head and it was a mess.
Having said that, I will be eating my Mulie tag as will a bunch of other guys here this year. It was kind of eerie not even hearing any shots in the last 3 days of the season. No 4points, but lots of spikes, 2's and 3's down here around Cranbrook. Not to mention hundreds of guys creeping through the bush and running around in vehicles in desperation. I had 2 guys walk out in front of me and sit right in the middle of the meadow I was watching and sit their arses down like they thought that they owned the place. This, after the bungaloids saw me and looked at me through binos. There are a lot of ignorant people around here, I have noticed. The reason I did not get a mulie is simple. There are not very many good bucks left here , because the MOE refuses to listen to reason and won't put Mulies on LEH or close the season for a year. Too many guys out looking to sling lead at any legal buck does not make for a healthy herd. I hear that the MOE , in their infinite wisdom wants to do away with the 4 point restriction all together, they want to put on an " any buck " season. If that happens, it will be the end of mule deer hunting in region 4. Too many bucks will get slaughtered and there won't be hardly any bucks to breed the doe's.
Pretty sad and stupid.

We were lucky I guess, we saw and got one, but talking to a member of a group that hunts about 20 k from us as the crow flies, they apparently saw, as of last Wednesday, 27
I presume there is duplicate counting in that total, but hey, that's almost too easy - I personally prefer to do at least a little work for my venision but could have used a little more venison on the hoof where we hunt :D

My thoughts:

- Deer numbers are lower than previous years (couple of hard winters?)
- Number of coyotes are up (I killed 2 on opening morning before I got to my stand, 2km walk and saw a 3rd)
- Rut is running late
- Corn still on the fields because it is too wet (moisture content in the corn)
- Weather too warm

Having said that we managed to get 5 in total. We are seeing lots of tracks and a little bit of buck sign. We are seeing lots of bucks including some hogs on the cameras - all at night.

Hopefully the ML/bow season will be better...

I got one...not pretty one either.

My reason for not getting more or bigger ones............

I SUCKED THIS YEAR.

Could not have hit a deer if it crawled up in the deer stand with me. And I got two empty packs of slug ammo to prove it.

and yes I did sight it in, was about two inches low at 50 and most of the shots were about that. Dont know if I over compensated or what. Maybe it was taking apart the shotgun for a thorough cleaning after I sighted in and before I went hunting.

Did I mention that I SUCKED..........

I didn't get a deer this year because when I wasn't looking someone switched out my slugs for 7 1/2 shot...honest, I'm sure of it!

Scope was off, only buck I saw and missed at less than 20 yards.

Should have used your muzzleloader, you would have got him :p

I shot a 3 point (28 yards, muzzleloader)...on Sat (14th)...definitely not the one I was looking for, but it's a good cull-buck. (I'll post a pic when I get a chance)

Saw 3 deer in 2 weeks (shot 1)...Lots of sign...No daytime activity...Too many yotes.

Could have knocked off the second biggest Whitetail I've ever seen with my truck the night before I left for 41 on Wednesday & came back yesterday with no luck on either tag and wasn't even hungover...
Too warm... Jump in the lake twice from the sauna. Cold but not that bad. The back stroke was out. May have to find one of them front stuffing thing-a-ma-jigs for chance later this year around here...

Was up in 47 for first week, our group of 6 got three deer, with me taking 2 of the three:D both bucks:D within 25 seconds or so:D:D:D:D:D:D

Story is here....http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=403460 if anyone cares to read it.:D

That is three more deer than we have gotten in the past 3 years, LOL.

We could of had 2 other does, if a couple of the group members had of been on their game. Shots were fired, just no game taken with the shots. More deer than we have ever seen.....weird year:confused:

Saw a lot of deer this year but very hard to hunt. They just would not come out so we ( my hunting group consists of a grand total of two guys) have been hunting deep brush in stands and short drives. Lots of still hunting as well if conditions allowed it. So far two filled doe tags and one buck that we missed yesterday.

Coyotes are a real problem. They are everywhere. I hope the $20 bounty thins them out this year and soon before the snow comes.
