The ban was not by the caliber, but rather by the Joules of energy at the muzzle. That particular 8mm round gives a little over 10,500 joules.
There was a live one listed on a militaria dealers site. It is now relisted as deactivated.
Actually the ban was on firearms with a bore diameter of 20mm, OR 10,000 J E.
Given that this is maximum permitted, anything with a bore over 20mm, is prohibited. Bore measurement is taken from the widest point, and in the case of shotguns, standard practice is to measure with the removable choke removed.
Virtually all shotguns manufactured in the last 50 years with removable chokes, will have a maximum bore diameter in excess of 20 mm. Remington and Mossberg, to name a few. These are all now prohibited according to Ed Burlew, probably the most knowledgeable and experience firearms lawyer in Canada.
A donation to the Conservative Party would be much appreciated. The Liberals WILL take your guns. The Conservatives WILL NOT. A donation of up to $400 gets you a 75% tax deduction.
Donating to the conservatives is a waste of time. THey had their chance. They could have repealed the prohibited class of firearm. They could have repealed the ability to prescribe by OIC. They could have repealed all registration. They could have repealed licensing. THey could have shut down the FRT in its entirety.
Instead they fiddled, and handed all the tools of disarmament back to the liberals. They now have a minority, an ineffective leader, and a weak caucus. They have no alliances with any other party. THey are utterly powerless to do anything. They will not fund any court challenges. They will campaign and try to win on the promise of repeal, just as they did in 2004, and in 2006, and 2008 and 2011, and 2015 and 2019. IN the end, they repealed nothing of significance. Whether they are in power or not, not much changes.
This next round will be fought in the courts, by the gun orgs with the help of lawyers like Mr Burlew. This is to whom your money and support should be going. Because they will always be there, fighting the hard fight with the long game in mind.
