Do any of you keep somthing over your muzzle during wet weather or all the time even? There are little condoms to slip over your muzzle too. Try them?

I've heard it said enough times that a piece of tape over the muzzle won't comprimise accuracy. Has anyone at the range tried firing with this piece of tape over the muzzle? Does your POI in fact stay true? Does your groups open up?

I've used tape and the little finger condoms(tape stays on better) but have not fired with it on.

Just curious if this is a myth and maybe there are some myth busters out there.

The tape, condoms whatever do not affect POI.

Ive shot from the bench with tape on the muzzle and there is no difference at all. Interestingly, the tape does not get blown off, a nice round hole is punched.

I have shot with electrical tape on. POI stays true, or close enough that I really couldn't have noticed.

I didn't shoot, reapply, shoot etc for groups, though.

I use electrical tape.

I have used tape and finger condoms and a combo of both, but actualy never blown any off the end of my gun from shooting, hmmm, makes me wonder if it is simply bad luck,,,

Better to have something on the end in wet or snowy conditions than not... It could prevent bulging of the barrel from water or an obstruction...

Cheers

I played with masking tape over the muzzle at the range, years ago. Never found any change in accuracy with it. I tape the muzzle of every rifle I take out hunting, especially my .50 cal. muzzle loaders.Never know what can fall down the barrel in the bush........Ken

I shoot through the tape all the time. Actually the tape splits open before the bullet ever touches it due to the air being pushed down the barrel in front of the bullet. Leaves a ragged hole in the tape and once in a while just flips the tape open like a door. I always remove the tape after I get home or back to camp to let any condensation dry up.

RO :)

Yes that is one thing to be careful of using the finger condoms, they trap moister againts the barrel. After a long wet day of hunting I have seen rust showing under the condom(only place it was present).

I always put tape over, never thought to check to see if it affected accuracy. I always assumed the tape would be blown awaybefore the bullet got thier.

Looks like I was right.

I used electrical tape for years with no accuracy problems.

Then JJHack over at 24hrcampfire suggested foam ear plugs. They work even better. Just roll it up an insert it so it is half in and half out of the barrel. I've shot dozens of rounds with this setup with out any issues.

That is very interesting. I guess there wouldn't be any more resistance than tape. I have used tape and the muzzle mitts and have worked well, as long as you remove them at the end of the day.

:D

I use a small mini cocktail umbrella - just open the umbrella and stick it in. Accuracy may suffer slightly but the animals are laughing so hard you can generally get pretty close and it doesn't matter.

(PS -for any newbies out there, i'm kidding. :) )
