The question: to paint or not to paint. . . pay more to paint?

To paint or not to paint, that is the question.

Paint won't last the first outing. Save the manufacturing /$ from doing it and buy a can of spray paint (if you haven't already) yourself. I just want the steel (and stands sometimes).. Raw dog for the win.

1) keep the ugly paint job. That way it protects the metal some what and if a customer wants a nicer job they can do it themselves. When I paint my gongs its never a nice job either, just need some color to see them.

Paint them as cheap as you can.
I got out to test my new targets from you last weekend and tried my best to keep the paint nice by just hitting the same spot. lol

Some people would look through all the wheel barrows in the hardware store to find the one with no scratches in the paint. WTH?

Checkout options

$ Raw steel and fast out the door
$$ Rough paint / prime and add another day to order time
$$$ Nice paint and a longer lead time

Let everyone choose and then nobody can ##### and moan about what they wind up with.

You got it right, paint gets shot off. No sense in making it look pretty. If people want fancy painted targets for their instagram, they can paint it themselves. Slap a quick coat on so stuff like stands doesn't start to rust immediately and you're good.

Bare metal, no need to include a step that adds cost to the business but that ultimately provides little benefit to the consumer. It's going to get shot off, and if anyone wants to paint it, most folks have a half-can of Rustoleum laying around. Good suggestion previously to leave final sanding at a grit that is conducive to accepting paint.

^^^ exactly this^^^

Congratulations TRAGICALLYHIPGRANDPA!!!
You are our winner :)
please pm us with your deets so we can send you your target.

To everyone who participated in the survey THANKS SO MUCH! We are going to do our best to do provide the options you have all suggested to us. Likely we will come up with a plan after our busy season passes so we can focus on getting everyone their targets right now :) expect everything painted until the site says differently.

Personally I am leaning towards primer for the bases and optional for targets and altering the prices $$ accordingly. We are getting a sandblaster set up so maybe that can replace our current 'cleaning' system to get the targets spiffy enough to send raw and ready for paint.

I've chosen two additional winners for ####s-&-giggles cause we appreciate all your support.
and Comment #78 we will PM you as well.

Thanks for participating everyone :)
Happy shooting!

Hi guys,
K here. A recent question has been posed to us that makes us wonder how we should go about it. It's a problem that I'm not proud of, but really gets my knickers in a twist.

The problem is paint,
While we only guarantee ugly paint jobs as in our FAQ http://https://www.rangerabbit.com/pages/about-us this has come up once or twice a year as an issue. Especially as its our busy season and we are trying to get orders out the door sometimes the paint is done the day of shipping in order to keep up with orders. This includes our stands etc.

My mindset is that this target will be shot at and you (the customer) is buying the functional target or stand of which we are happy to replace or modify should an issue of functionality come up. most targets and stands will have the paint shot off of. We keep our prices low in some ways because we aren't investing in a premium of 'looks' department. Especially with Covid prices have gone wonky and we are trying to keep things affordable as best we can.

The reality is our options are:

1) Keep the occasional ugly paint job
2) Up our prices to have everything minty-standard-
3) Stop bothering with the fuss to begin with and sell the products raw dawg steel.
So poll time: What do you guys want from us?

Since you guys like free stuff I'll include a 6" gong freebie for the discourse randomly chosen to settle the 'issue' as it stands. (clairification: poll and comment to be entered into the draw)

Leave paint/ no paint as a checkout option, priced accordingly?

Nothing wrong with an ugly paint job for something that will have lead hurled at it as it's main purpose.
I'd just offer them painted in red rust paint and let the client paint to taste if they so choose.
Painting and shipping the day of...I'd rather paint it myself.
