My buddy has a 725 in 244 remington I hound him about monthly. I think the 725 was the nicest of the old Rems. Made until 61 the 244 introduced in 1959 in the 725. I have read that Remington went to a faster twist in 1957 in the 244 after being trounced in the dual purpose round battle with the 243 winchester

The 725’s have drop floorplate, a different safety, checkering, sling studs and cheek piece. They are awesome rifles as well. A 244 is very uncommon. Keep on him until he has a weak moment!
I have a few in my Remington collection too. A 243, 270 and a 30/06.

I read on a Remington collector forum only around 1600 were made in .244 so pretty scarce.

I'm down to two 725's, a 280, and a receiver in a custom stock with a magnum bolt face. Not decided yet what I will barrel that one in. Yes, Remington changed the twist on the 244 to run heavier bullets, and renamed it the 6mm Rem, probably the best of the 6mm cartridges, though it isn't as popular as Winchester's 243. - dan

What amazes me is the prices of them way back then. I know it was a lot of money back then for the wages but you got a lot of gun for the money also. Have so many plastic guns in my possession and a couple wood ones and the older ones are my go to always.

Very nice old classic! I have a 721B in 300H&H.

The only downside I know of is that the extractors are problematic if you need to replace one. I did manage to source a spare for mine from the States but the 30-06 type are N/A.

I have one. My last one. I will let it go. It is for 243 308 30-06 270 or 280 if I can find it and I believe I can.

The 721/722 extractor "issue" is a non issue. Three times now I've put a rivetted 700 extractor in them. Locating and drilling the hole for the rivet is critical.

Found this nice 1956 Remington 721 30/06 on the weekend.
