The SL8 Mods, Info and FAQ Thread

When the hammer is cocked and selector on "fire" they should be touching. It should look like this:

There must be something wrong with mine, (or the hole I've drilled is too offset) because it looks like this :

I guess I'll have to deal with a higher hammer pressure...

did you drill the hole right where the plastic injection mould marks were? Can you post a picture of the side of your lower?

I thought so, but I had a surprise once finished...

Left side: a bit low (I did the holes with a Dewalt hand held drill... the bit must've slipped...)

right side: not so bad

The offset is in the North-South axis, but the gap is in the East-West axis. I'm not sure that it would've eliminated the gap if I had drilled the holes perfectly on the marks...

Well, I have the same lower, and my holes are perfect (you're suppose to use a punch :p, then your drill bit has a guide so it doesnt slip), and eveything lines up like in my stock SL8 lower. Because your holes are lower, it cant reach the hammer. Hope it functions fine. If not, you can always fill the holes up with an epoxy, and drill new holes.

DONE! - For Now

Here it is, Build Complete. SL8-1 (US Version). Milled the receiver too accept the new bolt and double stack mags, the US Magwell fits like a glove covering the gaping hole in the side..........one of these days I might get the itch to do some epoxy work and fill it permanently but for now it'll do.

Works fine shoots like a champ and the mags drop free like they're sposed to. Going to give her another dye bath in the coming weeks to fix the magwell, this time I'll remove the bbl and put her on a slow boiling lol.

HELP!! I took my trigger group apart to install the extended bolt release (worst decision of my life.... took me forever to get it back together) got it all back together and took it to the range and now it fails to fire, light primer strikes that don't ignite the round. any ideas how i can fix this problem?
thanks guys

No problem buddy! Looks great, just need to shorten that barrel :p How heavy is that configuration? I recall the SL8 being very front heavy.

Mine is just about done, today I got the 30mm Vortex "Low" rings from SFRC, (these guys rock!). Its currently sitting at 9lbs loaded with optics.
Last item is the extended ambi mag release, and its finally done :)

If anyone is thinking about getting an extended bolt release, stop waiting and get one, their really nice. You'll need to push a little harder then I thought, but it works great.

Zombie match is coming up, I still need to find molle magazine pouches for G36 mags

I may be missing this , but I have searched the whole forum and have not located where to buy the folding stock , I would love to upgrade mine .

Any help would be great

The results are in, 12.5" G36k barrel, with 75 grain HP .223 PRIV bullets, sitting on 24.8 grains of Varget, shot from a single front rest, with a Vortex PST Viper 1-4x24 (set at 4x) at 100m groups at 1"!! Repeated 6 times with very similar results. I’m sure I could do better, I was just firing to get the scope sighted in. Each time I fired 5 rounds, they grouped at about an 1" :) I am very pleased with this barrel. I thought going short would compromise the accuracy by a lot, at 100m there is almost no difference. I didn’t have a chance to shoot at 200m yet.

PS. EESA Blast Off shoot is tomorrow!! Come one, come all, you dont need to be a member. Many different events, site sponsors will be there too.

Thanks! As shown about 9lb, but the precision of the scale is so-so. For now I'm happy with a non-res black rifle. But the G36K/C conversion looks pretty tempting...

Good luck with your Zombie match! Kill'em all!

Hi!

I own a SL8 with a AR magwell. I have buy the gun used and it have come with the MagWell also.

But I often got a problem when I insert a mag in the gun. The first cartridge get half ejected and jam the bolt. I have to be very careful and I'm tire of that! Did you have the same problem with your NEA AR magwell adaptor?

I have try to find the origin of the magwell but I can't find it. It did not look like the NEA one or the old style one. The release button is pretty similar to the NEA one but the MagWell is ticker and flat. Is there a third version of the magwell???

Thank You and I appologize for my bad english!
