The speed Garands are going at is insane!

Saw one at Shooters Choice in Kitchener on the weekend. H&R receiver with mostly SA parts. Said it came with the bayonet.
I believe it was $695. Starting to look like a decent price.

Hey, Guys :D

Wow... just looking around on the site once a day, it's crazy how fast a Garand goes... I don't even get to see a price or picture :) What's the average price for a decent Garand going for now anyhow?

Hey Red Dawg,
You're not the only one... would be nice if we could see how much they go for at least eh?

c9er

Yea

Because I went to a gun show just this past weekend - one guy didn't want to sell his because it was a collective item (but I knew it has been refinished... liar) and another fella wanted $1200 for 35###### Garand... but it was in good shape. It had a P on the stock, but there was a square around it instead of a circle... kinda wish I knew what that meant :-s

I did some digging as i have a stock w/ a square "P". It turns out that that stock was on a rifle or that particular rifle, and it went through a rebuild program at Red River Army Depot or San Antonio Arsenal. "P" means it passed the proof round firing test without damage.

Gentlemen, if you're looking for a shooter, get one of the Danish contract Breda or Beretta models, far more affordable, built on Winchester machinery and usually in decent condition. If it's definitely a US made rifle you're after, many of the Danish Garands are of US origins, though very few of them are still in original condition. They are close enough that the US Civilian Marksmanship Program is repairing them and selling them to qualified individuals in the states. Even in the US, Garands are'nt cheap. The same thing can be said for the rest of the milsurps down there, anything that I've seen down there is usually priced at what it's worth, A $100 rifle is just that. A VG or better grade is every bit as expensive in the US as it is here. If you're really looking for a decent Garand, forget about 5 year old priceing. If you see a decent rifle at a gunshow or advertised in Canadian Access to Firearms monthly paper, don't procrastinate, contact the seller for a descriotion. When it comes to milsurps, you snooze, you lose. bearhunter

Even Breda's/Beretta's are hard to find... not often I find one of them around here. I know that Springfields aren't the greatest for shooters, but if you don't care about authenticity, you can always stick a Wilson barrel on it :D All I care about is that I get a chance to grab one on gunnutz here but they're gone within 10 minutes lol.

I picked up my Garand about 1 1/2 years ago at the Lethbridge show for $475 :D . She's a Springfield, #3500000ish with armourer repairs to the stock, but the metals fine. She was buried in a rack with a bunch of other beaters. You never know what you're gonna trip over at a show.

(E)

So many I've gone through 3 printer cartridges.
Have you coughed up to help the CSSA in the fight?
I did $50.00 last month and more on the way this month.

I wouldn't pay $600+ for a shooter grade M1.......you can build one for less.
Amen to that! This site has artificially inflated the price of Garands by 30%+....

You can build one for less than 600??? Ummm No. Please show me a price list of parts in CANADA that totals under six. In fact, why don't you sell me a complete unassembled working parts set for 600. Come on now, my wallet is burnin up here. Reality check: winchester reciever 150, SA reciever 100, breda reciever 50, comercial barrel short chambered uninstalled, not parked 200us+ new lumber 100+, op rod 75- 150, gas cyl 80-100, sights 100- 150, bolt 100-150, trigger group 100, OOOPS, we went over! and we're still missing over 20 other little bits peices and springs. Oh, and as far as I've noticed, prices on this site are a good bit less than current gunshow prices.

I'll sell you a complete rifle at those prices you listed for parts.......:)
Seriously, look around a bit, lots of parts around and reasonable prices

Hitzy, I have looked around. I am building two M1's right now. The first one is done, the second is mostly there. I have looked and shopped around ALOT. The parts prices I quoted are realistic. Much of that stuff is hard to find in usable condition, like oprods. Barrels are tough to find too. Marstar's parts list is completely wrong. Try calling and asking for something they list- it ain't there. districorp and tradex have odds and ends, but no gas cylinders, op-rods or barrels. That leaves us with ebay, check out M1 parts prices on ebay- no bargains there either. I am not trying to discourage anyone, but the reality is that Garands are now expensive. I am tired of hearing about how much things used to cost. EVERYTHING used to be cheap at one time.
