The Stag 10s NR stripped receiver set thread

So as a guy who has zero experience with the AR10 platform, if I wanted to build a retro C7A1-style in .308, is it possible? Can I get a reasonably lightweight 20" .308 barrel with rifle-length gas, the C7-style front sight/gas block, handguard retainer... and will an AR15 handguard fit?

A lighter weight barrel is as close as your nearest gunsmith with a lathe.
Turning down an AR style barrel is very straightforward. Indicate the barrel in, at the gas block location, turn down the muzzle end. Reverse, turn down the breech end.
Length can be adjusted, muzzle threaded for the desired brake or hider.
Different gas blocks/front sights can be fitted.

Irun guns, prophet river or a z t e c h armory can import it for you or find a Canadian dealer and get them to bring it in on their next order

^^^ Thanks skoal

They won’t sell directly to you, not anymore.

^^^ lol ya, I already found that out from them. I hear it's all your fault :stirthepot2: :nest: lmao... jk

Brownells, rainier Arms are US dealers.
CRAFM,Sylvestre and a store in Dawson Creek are they’re CA dealers.

^^^ And Thanks Brian

I just sent an e-mail off to Prophet River. I'll see what happens

Opinions on handguards? I've narrowed it down to

A. SLR Rifleworks ultra light 15" M-lok

B. Midwest Industries 15" M-lok

C. ---------------------

Edit: Scratched the Fortis Switch off my list

V7 weapon systems. I’ve handled their AR15 hyperlite mlok handguard and it is very nice. I’d just be concerned with flex like the Fortis switch handguards. I am very seriously considering ordering one their .308 DPMS AR10 ones anyways.

The ATRS Modern Hunters & Modern Varmiter use a 0.875 gas block, that is part of the problem why they were contacting the flexy fortis switch handguards. You will have more clearance with a 0.750” gas block. Set screw style gas blocks generally provide more clearance than clamp on style gas block. I changed the 15” fortis switch to a 12” on my Modern Hunter to solve the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Those are both nice options to look into. And holy chit is that V7 ever light!

I'll have to wait until I hear if I can get that Christensen Arms CFW barrel or not before I make a handguard decision. The CA barrel has a .936 gas block so clearance on some of the slim lightweight handguards may be an issue. I could always go with a 12" to avoid this issue however I think a 12" looks goofy on a 20" barrel.

Here's an idea of what I want to do except with CFW barrel and less scope.

What handguards are you guys going with?

I'd go with a slr helix like BCL 102 but the only source in Canada is @z tech and their next import is in September.

Faxon makes a 20 inch pencil profile barrel, hybrid chamber, .750 seat, MPI etc. - 2 lbs. Not cheap but you knew that. Already here (if you're quick, one assumes)

If only they made an 18.5” big Gunner. I think that $260 US is quite reasonable.
