The T97 Thread!

So... I am still unable to mate the T97 LHG with the Gen 2 upper: The trigger fails to reset, every time.

I was forced to shave a little material on the LHG handguard, just to align with the take-down pin, as the material surrounding the barrel retaining "pin" was protruding slightly.

[The cresecent-like portion that mates directly against the handguard, on either side].

Otherwise, the original foregrip works every time, albeit I want to replace it with a metal lower.

Any similar issues to mine?

Cheers!

All gen 2s have new feed ramps?

Yes, a sort of M4 feed ramp, but crude and rough. My Gen 2's first range trip had a couple of FTF in the beginning, and then fed fine from the 2nd mag on. When I returned home and cleaned it, I saw A LOT of brass shaving between the chamber and the feed ramp.

I used a round shape diamond file to smooth out the feed ramps a little. From then on, much less brass shaving, and no feeding issues whatsoeva.

All ejected brass has a deep bump in the middle, and flies so far forward to the right that I can't even find them any more.

Hey guys, I don't post very often, but could really use some help here. Got a good deal on a Gen 2, all seemed well, until noticed the right side of the chamber had a chamfer in it that I don't think should be there. Decided to see how much it affected the chamber support, so I removed the striker, bolt and bolt carrier and inserted a dismantled casing (no powder or bullet in it) to check how much case was exposed.

The thing is, I don't know if I need to be worried about it or if this is an acceptable tolerance for 5.56 or for this rifle. The length of the visible part I am concerned about, from chamber to the first ridge where case body ends, is about 0.060"-0.065" (I believe the visible part is roughly half that on the other side, as the chamfer there seems smaller, but I'm guesstimating). I will try to include a picture for a better visual of what I am talking about. Fist shot regular, second a closeup that probably exaggerates the issue just because it's zoomed in so much, and last is me trying to scratch the casing for a rough visual of the amount what I can see on the right side.

If someone more knowledgeable about .223/5.56 round and the T97 platform can let me know if this is within tolerances for cartridge/platform or if I shouldn't shoot it and take it straight to a gunsmith, please let me know, I would be very appreciative, as I'm not sure if I should worry or not at this point. Thank you.

I tried a resized/deprimed case in my Gen 2 and it sits in there about the same as yours. I suspect the chamfer is to allow the extractor to slip over the case rim. If you look at your bolt head, you will see that the bolt face is recessed, not flat, so the bolt head supports the portion of the case protruding from the chamber.

Thanks for checking. Mixed results though it seems.
What I'm really trying to figure out is, if the amount of unsupported casing I have is abnormal and unsafe or within limit.
I hope you're right Working Man, although I'm not sure the bolt is recessed enough for all of that case, I think it just goes up to the rim where the body starts, so I'm worried the section within the chamfer is unsupported, but I'm not sure if that's a problem or not, if it's large enough to worry about or not.
Any chance you guys can post what their chambers look like with a shell casing in it for comparison? Sorry, I know it's a pain in the posterior, so if no time or energy, no problem :) either way, thank you for responding. I'm lost as to whether is a dangerous problem without an obvious solution or a non-issue and totally within the norm, so your input really helps.
