The T97 Thread!

There's three variables to groups: the rifle, the shooter and the ammo. If you shoot inconsistent bulk ammo, your groups are going to suffer. Try buying a couple of boxes of higher end stuff and shoot groups to see what you and your rifle can do and then use your blaster ammo to blast.

My rifle did honest two inch groups when I grouped it. Your rifle may do better. Or worse.

That's what I'm going to do. Thanks for the advice.

Do any of you guys think it's possible to have a t97 rechambered/barelled to another caliber? I was thinking about the barrel expectancy of the t97 and what to do after its shot out. If memory serves me correct the barrel is pinned in place, so it COULD potentially be changed with and 18.5" .300 BO barrel? Or something else that uses the same magazines and bolt as the 223? Has anyone else thought about this ? I know it wouldn't be financially feasible and maybe 300 BO isn't the ideal cartridge for the t97 (first cal. that comes to mind in regards to compatibility) but If you'll indulge me..I saw an ad on the EE for a .243 (?) tavor and it got me thinking

It’s technically possible. To get my barrel threaded they took it out of the gun.

300blackout would avoid bolt modifications. I believe someone was working on one of some strange caliber. Anything is possible if you want to throw that much money at a cheap rifle.

Is there somebody who makes an ambi charging handle (can be pulled on both sides) for the factory Gen II?

I sometimes have to switch the charging handle from one side to the other (I prefer it on the left, but sometimes optics have a big knob on the left, too). An ambi version can save me all the trouble of going back and forth.

Not that I know of no.

Hello, I have been thinking about getting a T-97 Gen 2 after I save up some cash. I always wanted to get a bullpup (for various reasons) & I think the T-97 Gen2 is the perfect one.

Now, I have a few questions:
- Besides t97.ca is there anywhere else to get any aftermarket parts?
- What's the difference between the stock Gen 2 & t97.ca's FTU & LHG? Is the latter worth the money to even put on a Gen 2?
- How well does it take LAR, Beowulf & STANAG mags or would I better off with the standard Chinese mags?
- How is the safety? I read that the safety takes to getting use to due to the location of it.
Thank you

To answer your questions:

1. There's some online vendors that sell gimmicky aftermarket parks such as extended mag releases and such, but aside from t97.ca we're kinda SOL as far as aftermarket or even replacement parts go. Personally I don't think those aftermarket parts are really worth it.

2. The Gen 2 T97 (which is what I have), aside from the stock flat top rail, which is pretty nice and low profile, has an ambi mag catch, and a modified feed ramp to prevent severe FTF malfunctions (ones which push the bullet back into the case lol), however in my experience there can still be FTF malfunctions depending on what type of magazine you are using, usually on the first round. IMO the the only good mod I'd get on the T97 Gen 2 is the LHG, but t97.ca is out of stock on it, with no restock time listed, which blows big time. Personally I'd go with the G2 over a G1 with the t97.ca FTU.

3. My Gen 2 T97 really likes E-lander steel AR magazines, both 5/30 and 10 round pistol mags. Otherwise the stock Norinco mag it comes with works great, but beware of polymer magazines and C-Products LAR mags... those require modification in order to insert into the mag well. Also for some magazines you can push them 'too far in' when loading with the bolt held open and cause a FTF on the first round. You just have to be careful and seat the magazine properly by pulling it back slightly after the mag catches when loading on an open chamber

4. The safety is pretty awkward to use, so if you're used to an AR style safety it is definitely going to feel weird and be slower to turn on and off.

General comments:

Ergonomics takes some getting used to but once you've got it, it's a good compact rifle for target shooting, run and gun drills and LARPing. It is reasonably accurate (2-3MOA) out to 400 yards or so if you decide to mount a scope, and prefers heavier .223/5.56 bullet types such 62gr M855 or Hornady 75gr BTHP due to the 1 in 7in twist. As far as reliability goes the only malfunctions I have had were due to magazine issues, otherwise I do some very basic cleaning after every shooting session and the action cycles fine. If you decide to buy a G2 the first thing I would do is to remove the flat top rail screws and apply locktite to prevent the them from walking out after a few hundred rounds.

A couple places have a couple parts like mag releases that are janky but nothing nice like T97.ca.

Stock gen 2 upper is a bit lower and had their different charging handle. Both are good. The LHG works on both of them also.

Some mags can be tight on the spine. A quick file on plastic or squeeze on metal and I’ve had no issues. I use only pistol mags now.

Back safety is pretty useless. I’d either leave it off, or get a LHG which has a good safety on it.

One other thing, TheBurnedMan, is that a T97.ca lower can be purchased from those selling their upgraded gen1 models. The worst case scenario, is that the owner may have gotten rid of their original lower, and may need a replacement to keep their rig usable.

Hell, I have a donor model if you ever need it.

Cheers!

Update on a few things.

I had about 30% failure to feed with the 10/10 cross mags today. Still have to try in ARs but disappointed they won’t work in a T97.

Also the 3D printed lower broke itself beside the grip before it was even hot enough to melt.

And my BC tactical charging handle will never stay tight. Today, last magazine of the day it came loose again and smashed into my T97.ca upper.

Aaaand finally clean again.

Hey everyone,

I've been lurking this thread for a bit and I'm a little bit confused on some things regarding mags that I'm looking for some clarification.

I have 2 x Magpul PMAG Gen 3 and 2 x IMI Lar 15 PMAG. While they fit into the mag housing, they're pretty stiff. I'm seeing in this thread that people recommended sanding either the back of the mag housing or the mags themselves... I'm not sure which to do and looking for some direction.

I also noticed that with the mag that comes with the T97 I will have to pull down on the mag in order to chamber a round. Was curious if anyone else had this.

Wanted to also note, since I don't think I saw it, that t97.ca added a BBHS (barricade block/hand stop) accessory. Don't' know when they did but I'll likely order one.

I recommend mags being adjusted since depending on some mags it’s already loose. I find loose mags cause feeding issues.

I normally hit the mag in and pull down, regardless what mag I use.

Barricade stop has been around a while. Only accessory I don’t have.

Thanks for replying ShawnC6.

Next available moment I have, I'll be sanding them mags (very gently). I also got a 10/10 cross mag. I'm hoping to have more success than what you reported a few posts back.

Thanks again!
