I just got my Type 97 off EE, I like it. I can see getting the FTU down the road though. Type 97 pic 2.jpg

I have watched a disassembly and reassembly vid, but what are the lube points??

I tried to design this with ample deflection, a side saddle and cheek riser. I am influenced by the SCAR look a bit, but wanted flowing lines. Thoughts?
 
Deckard that looks good, have you had it out to shoot yet? how are you securing it in place and will you be selling any?
 
There's a video posted a bit back. The way of securing it is a matter of research for me. I am committed to no mods to the rifle itself. I would like these to be available but can't discuss it here. That would be premature anyway. This is just a concept model.

Nice rifle! :)

Lubricate anything with wear marks.

Grease the outside of the bolt, the rails on which the bolt carrier rides and anything else which strikes your fancy (heavy wear?) except for the trigger group/striker, piston and gas plug... use oil on these.

That's how I lube it but it's actually a fairly basic rifle so use your judgement and shoot the heck out of it.

Picked up a t97 2 weeks ago. installed a FTU yesturday.
A+ for weight, balance and feel. its a dream to shoot, handles so well.
Besides the position of the safety and the mag release, its almost perfect.
Definitely the new favourite in my collection.

I just ordered and installed mine. I live pretty locally so I received the shipment with in 24hrs from ordering. Awesome.... Easy install and was put on later that same day (last week). Great fit and finish.....I added a lower rail, a folding front grip and a cheek rest for the Eotech and 3x flip zoom.
Can't wait to take it out and try it. Far superior from the original handle and sights

I tried a few shots out of my T97 that I just received, and while on setting "1" the brass was being ejected about 7 yards! Does setting "2" eject less far? The manual doesn't seem to address this.

"0" forces all the gas out the end of the barrel behind the projectile to launch a rifle grenade.

Although there should be enough recoil forced back into your shoulder to regret it.

this appears to be a problem also reported by other T97 users, but so far nobody has any solution for it.
how do the ejected cases look? any significant brass damage?
there is no fundamental reason why the (brutal) ejection and the (super-strong) recoil spring tension on the T97 should be much different than what you see on the AR15, for example.
eventually, some clever solution will be available to solve this issue.

The brass casings have a dent in the middle of them which has been mentioned by others in this thread. I am assuming that it is from the casings hitting the plastic housing on exit?

I have a question about the FTU.... I am not fond of the charging handle mechanism that comes with it .. don't like that it free floats (not connected to the actual charging lever). I would like to install the FTU housing only (without the charging handle mechanism provided) and make/install a knurled handle that attaches to the side of the actual charge lever instead. I think this would be more functional and look better. Has anyone else done/tried this?

the way it ejects, it looks like there is way to much pressure in the gas system, when the gas plug is set to "normal".
the "adverse" setting of the gas plug is therefore totally useless, the way it is now, IMO.
I would prefer a gas plug that used a much smaller hole for "normal" setting, that ejects to 3'-6'
with a useable "adverse" setting (the one used now for "normal" would do) and a lighter recoil spring to go with it.
I would pay for a fix to this issue. :)

I would also like something like that, in case there is a need for forward assist.
Maybe one that looks like the charging handle on the FN PS 90 (it's ambidextrous, and located just under the forward end of the magazine - there are many pics on the web).
That rounded shape can also be operated with gloves, but doesn't snag much on things or poke you in the ribs.
