The T97 Thread!

What's a cerakote job run for? Been kinda wanting a new colour for my T97...maybe.

Looks like $250 - $450 depending. I get my gun back tomorrow from final cerakoting, frank at BC Cerakote said with all the little parts he doesn't want to do another T97, id imagine he would be saying for standard price lol

Just make sure you look into who you're getting to do it before you do.

I suddenly realized that I like the black colour more.

I personally like the black color. But if you wanted to do a "ghetto cerakote" job you could buy a can of krylon spray paint that is made for plastic then seal it with some kind of clear coat? Yod probably want to use regular krylon for the metal parts however. I dunno lol

I have had really bad luck painting my own stuff, after some rather pathetic forrays into painting my airsoft guns ended in a neon red urban camo scheme, I decided if I ever get anything painted again, it'll be professionally done.

Frank at Cerakote BC did a great job on the white. Doing all the little trigger parts turned him off the T97 though I think lol.

Also, how would you go about adding a picatinny rail for a foregrip on the stock handguard? I often see ones with AFGs and such and was thinking of doing that to my rifle since I dont want the LHG anymore. Drill? Epoxy? Happy thoughts?

I purchased a box of picatinny rails and one was the right length for the stock lower handguard. I lined-up the rail with the seam that runs straight down the middle and marked the 2 holes with white felt marker. I drilled and tapped ,attached the rail and put blue loctite on the supplied bolts. I had to take apart the AFG into its 2 halves to fit it on the rail as there is that slight hump at the front of the handguard that prevents you from just sliding it on. It's held on tight after a year of use with no problems.

Did it damage the seam at all? I remember an old hand guard off of something else just splitting right down the seam.

I used a drill press and was done in under fifteen minutes to attach the rail and AFG. The rifle is used for dispatching coyotes on my acreage so I don't baby it at all. It has handled my neglect well. Just remember to split the AFG into its 2 halves to assemble. There are a few pics I've come across on this forum that have owners use washers to space the rail from the handguard to clear the front " hump" It doesn't look as clean as the method I used. Hope it works out for you.

Im using an RVG for this one. I dont care for AFGs. Gonna use a mate's tools on Saturday. Ill post pics when done.

There was a "no tax" sale at LGS today and had one of these followed me home. It's has the FTU already installed and it feels fairly good. Stripped and cleaned/lubed, ready for a range trip Sunday.

How are you guys installing a QD mount for a single point QD sling?

I'm not sure where, but there's a replacement you can buy for the hand guard retention pin that is a QD sling point as well as the pin itself.

This question is for all you T97 owners/lovers out there. What made you pick it over other red/black non restricted rifles in the market now. Having such a hard time between this or a vz58.

I have a csa sa58 in 223 and two type 97's one is standard model the other has the flat top and the new lower. I like it for hunting coyotes in the bush, east to carry accurate for what it is. The type 97 isint perfect but it works. The one with the optic on it groups at 1.5 inch at 100 meters and the standard model about 3 inch at 100. The sa58 mounts a posp scope and if a fine coyote gun out to 300-400 meters with the right ammo. Both tpyes of rifles are reliable, ive had mag issues with the type 97. It does not like pmags but it does like metal and lar 15mags. will post pics soon.
