The T97 Thread!

I am definitely really really thinking about going to get one in fall (mainly $$$ problem now) 4 questions still (I know some might be answered in the past but may be time has changed so things might change?):

1) Did they improve the feeding problem and mag compatibility in Gen2 FTU?

2) Does the t97.ca lower allow you to actually change the grip to something like an Ergo grip?

3) Does the t97.ca lower actually improve the trigger pull a bit? Or is there any way to improve the trigger (I know it is not an AR ;) )

4) How about replacement parts? Can you actually find replacement parts for barrel, bolts and etc in Canada?

I presume you mean the Gen 2 rather than the FTU, which are factory uppers instead of the ones made by T97.ca. My friend picked one up recently and has put a few hundred rounds through it without issue. (I had both a 14xx and a 15xx serial numbered rifle that also never had any feeding issues, I think that problem is largely resolved.) Magwells were designed for steel/aluminum USGI magazines and are too tight for most other mags. A few minutes with a hand file will correct this and his fed through every mag we brought with no issues.

I like the Gen2 Upper more than the FTU, but I'm not familiar with the T97.ca lower enough to tell you if it would be compatible with the Gen2.

Some have stated they were able to get NS to bring in replacement bolts and other parts, but you have to be willing to wait, they don't stock them.

Absolutely. You'd be best to get one without a beavertail.

3) Does the t97.ca lower actually improve the trigger pull a bit?

It does. Not a massive difference, but it is noticeable. It's got less creep (though still a lot), the trigger itself is less floppy, and it breaks and resets cleaner.

Thanks guys. Most of my concerns are addressed but I think this above is a very good point... will the Gen2 work with the T97.ca lower? Anyone can confirm that? The trigger is not a huge issue to me but I would really like that AR like safety and able to change custom grip. Btw does anyone have the lower know if you can even mode that safety with AR ones? I fell in love with the Elftmann push safety. I have it on all my rifles and I will put it on if I can ;)

I think It's a proprietary safety, but it is just a trigger block so with a little effort a push style could be made...

Anyone else see this?

I contacted North Sylva and they had zero interest in bringing in gen2 mag releases on their own (no surprise there, I guess), so hopefully these will be available instead!

Sent an e-mail to the address in the video description. He has a final design but is trying to find a place to manufacture them.

Just got the t97.ca LHG and rear butt plate with magpull butt pad

wow, excellent improvement on the trigger and looks cool. Had to modify the a2 grip with a belt sander to contour to the shape of the trigger guard... minor considering it is designed for the hogue grip

If your thinking about getting the improved butt plate, just do it, money well spent, the rifle actually shoulders like a rifle should instead of way up high like it did before (or at least for me). Plus it looks better so thats worth something right?

still awaiting the FHG they make, but if its like any of there other products im sure it will be awesome

also...making polymer mags insert and drop free...in the last photo, a few minutes with a file and now i can use any mag i want, just open up the spine with a file and take down the humps around the spine, 15 minutes of work, no more dicking around to find a mag that fits

The lower has nothing to do with mag fitment. The magwell is integral to the reciever and remains unchanged in all years of T97NSR production to date.

Crap, that is true. I just broke my T97 out and had a good look. You are right. Much appreciate it! And thanks for posting the pictures--will make it easier to DIY
