The TAVOR

I was out blasting gophers this morning with the Tavor, and after about 100rnds I had a double. I was using 55AE ammo, and the primers aren't denting anymore than when cycled through my ARs. Firing pin wasn't lubed, but the bolt was. Anyone else have this happen?

u should be good to go .

Well sadly it didn't go boom. Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to install the firing pin properly? I'm new to all this. Could it be the ammo? Will this gun take any .223 ammo?

When I pull the cocking handle back for the first time with a full magazine in the gun and let it slide back to the forward position, it looks like the bolt carrier assembly isn't sliding all the way forward as I can see the head of the bolt in the chamber. I suspect I shouldn't be able to see anything in the chamber after I do that.

I also notice that the tip of the firing pin barely sticks out of the hole in the bolt. Is that normal?

Scratchin my head over here...

Question?

Why is this firearm shipped non-functioning?

Am I missing something here?

Is this a legal issue?

Just received the rifle. I notice the orange dot has "rays" radiate around it (from 4 to 8 o'clock position). Also, the base plate where MEPRO sight was mounted, a corner was "grinded" off. Will this cause the sight "issue"?

This is my first orange dot sight. Any help is appreciated.

Similar to this photo or is it worse? I've never seen a red dot sight with a perfectly circular dot before, but then again, I've only seen the $50 aimpoint knock-offs.

Why is everyone f**king around with the firing pins??

The firing pins were shipped with the rifles but not installed in the rifles ... its the way the Israelis shipped them. As a result, once the rifle arrives on your doorstep, you have to install the firing pin if you want to do some shooting.

No doubles here.

I used wheel bearing grease to lube the bolt and all seems well.

Bearing in mind the focus was upon that Gray safe, the dot isn't perfectly circular, but not as bad as the photo. There appears to be a minimal lens flair, and the dot itself might just be the tip of something conical.

One question I have ....is this sight parallax free? It seems to float around a fair bit until you deploy the front sight. This seems to give a better bearing.

Chris?

ohh, and the firing pin thing was explained previously. It was Air Canada's shipping policy to not ship active firearms. Be happy it's just the firing pin. K?

Ok, I've looked at it again and I can't see any other way to install the firing pin so it must be correct. The gun seems to do what it's supposed to with no ammo, but as soon as I put in a mag with bullets and pull the cocking handle back, it seems to jam before it reaches it's full forward return travel.

Can someone please tell me what the "Bolt Carrier Stopper Lever" does or what it's for? (it's on the bottom of the butt just behind the magazine). The Operation and Maintenance Manual makes no mention of it. It has a knurled finish to it so it looks like it might be something important. Maybe that is the key to my troubles?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Once again I am knew to firearms so forgive me for asking what might appear to be dumb questions.

After firing the last round ur bolt will stay in the backward position . After putting a new mag , u release the bolt by using this lever . U can also use this lever to lock the bolt in the backward position .

I noticed the bolt never came all the way foreward for me a couple times when changing mags and pulling back, then letting it go.I pulled it back again and got that round to finally kick out then snap the bolt foreward again and it worked.I thought it was because of this cheap ammo but I tried the ammo again later and it worked.

If u want to be sure , take the bolt assembly out . Ur bolt should be able to move back and forth with a bit of rotation . Ur firing pin should be in and if u look at the back the flat end should be facing up . When u push the bolt back all the way , the tip of the firing pin should stick out a bit . Hope this helps .

Thanks for that info hermann78, that makes sense now.

You know, I'm not letting the bolt snap back. It could be I'm being too gentle with the bolt? I'll try again today.

Anyone know if they have recieved the Picatinny rails for these puppies yet. I am taking that godforsaken meprolight off the tavor. I want to be able to see what this thing can really do at 100-300 yards with an appropriate sight on it.

Because apparently they don't come installed in the gun, but separate floating around in the box to be installed.

Depend on which box, I haven't seen any firing pin with mine, I'm pretty much the most pissed off guy on block since then...
