800+ Rounds through the Tavor in 2 days? OH YEAH!!
Hey All,
I thought I would post a quick and dirty review of the Tavor. I just recently came back from Grand Prairie, AB where I took the Intermediate Distance Fighting Rifle course from Tactical Repsonse. I had just received my Tavor the Wednesday prior to the course (started on the next Monday) and hadn't even zeroed the sucker in. So... I decided to run it to see what would happen!!
I took my DPMS AR-15 as back up... and it never left the case! This Tavor rocked! It was comfortable to use and ran the whole time with NO ISSUES. Which is really saying something since the second day brought rain and
wet sand to the course... We were crawling through the stuff, falling in the sand, etc... I think I counted 4 ARs that completely bought it, a couple of CZ's that died, and one SA SOCOM 16 that had feed problems. Even given that everyone seemed to have minor feed issues and had to clean their firearms thoroughly... not me though. The Tavor took it all with a grin! I was really impressed. And man that puppy is accurate after being zeroed...
I really had no issues. There are some things that you need to be aware of though. We fought close range to intermediate range (200 yards). Up close there is a HUGE sight offset with the Tavor. About a foot and a half.. So, when shooting in a CQB situation you'd have to aim the Mepro sight high (e.g. neck) to get centre of mass. At 200 yards though... it was an awesome thing see the water fly off of the metal target and then hear the 'ping' of a hit!!
The Mepro sight worked well in daylight or even cloudy situations, but sucks indoors or lowlight. Personally I think I may get the picatinny top rail and replace it with an EOTech.
And so you can't say I didn't post any pics... here's one of me firing from sitting at 200 yards... just follow the thumbnail for a larger pic.
