The TAVOR

Ive been stalking them for a couple months now. They say "later in the year" for when they are getting them in. I think it has to do with the deflated dollar and the higher price they would have to charge for them more than the T97 crisis, but I cant imagine that has helped their purchasing capitol situation.
I placed an order last July, still waiting. Do not know exactly why. The only possible thing to do is wait...

I wonder if a big enough group commited to the Tavor if it could speed up the later in the year delievery date?

Large enough group in Canada for a $3000 rifle??? I don't think so...

Hey can anyone tell me how you transition from right shoulder to left without eating brass? How does the Tavor work for lefties?

A well thought out post. I agree that it can be done and eating brass isn't the biggest issue. However, training to shoot from your support side is something you should be doing as part of a regular training program anyway. The likelihood of switching sides unless forced to is unlikely. As you said, another tool for the tool box. More tools never hurt. The awkward firing position of bullpup rifles when fired from support side doesn't promote effective use of the system. My other concern (from the MIL side) is what happens when a lefty picks up a righty rifle or vise versa(battlefield pickup)? The fixed LOP is another major draw back especially where armour is concerned. Don't forget the horrible offset.

I found it quite comfortable to shoot support from the strong side. I just didn't switch shoulders.
As far as eating brass goes, once the first one burns your open lips, you tend to close them up pretty fast.

I did find it harder to shoot it prone from my side, as there aren't very good landmarks to use as rudimentary sights on it's side.

I think it is a much more natural pointer than my AR, especially the long barrelled one. I can keep the dot centered much easier without any wandering.

I love my Tavor!

There's a leftie bolt available. It was a long-time due, but they are now in-country AFAIK.

I addressed this with the IDF training officers when I visited IWI. They do not shoot from their weak side. They train to always shoot from the strong side and have specific positions to do this. They will train users on these methods if we ever do a course in Canada, which they offered to do.

Hey canam, any time frame on the tavors? I know the dollar has to improve, but how much? Also is there any chance of getting one without the optic?

Does the Tavor have a standard Picatinny rail (MIL-STD-1913)?

I saw a someone with a EoTech on their Tavor so I suspect it is.

Canada Ammo has a supply of rails made by local CGNer 999.
Dlask also makes a rail. Search this thread for a discussion on their relative merits.

It has one on the fore stock but the one on the barrel is wider than standard. You need an adapter. Dlask sells one, and a member here does as well. The Dlask one allows BUIS co-witnessing.

That's what I went with. Fits the EoTech perfectly.

I just replaced the Mepro with the rail and put and put an Elcan Spectre dr on it for now as I should have a Acog to try on it shortly as well. I will keep what ever I find I like better on it. But I want to buy another Tavor.
