Too bad the SBI upper has a pic rail that doesn’t like up with the rail on a handguard. Forget their fear of a standard magwell, the upper has a massive design flaw.

I understand they had to make it taller to fit QD optic mounts, but I think it was a pretty big miss as most people don’t have QD mounts, plus there was a work around to make those optics work.

Hopefully crusader arms can release this lower and compatible upper as a builder set for those who want a 180 upgrade

I think this was specifically designed for people who weren't satisfied the current "180 type" offerings. But that's just personal speculation.

The new version of Lynx lower has fixed the magwell angle issue. As for the on-spec rail, a fix would be use a pure MLOK handguard, and the get or have SBI make the correct height MLOK rail section, like Siniatral Riflemen did to put a front BUI on thee WWSD (much to Karl's chagrin :p )

It’s definitely a nice looking rifle, has lots of ACR vibes and the price point is decent. I’d consider buying one in the future but right now the only thing the 180 market is missing is a NICE looking light weight option. Give me this rifle at 6.5lbs or so and I’d burn a hole in my pocket. I think that weight could be had by cutting back the material on the rear of the lower, reduce the height of the upper by changing the charging function and slapping on either a fluted or gunner profile barrel.

It’s a minor improvement, it still isn’t what the market has been asking for since the 180’s started coming out.

Hats off to crusader arms and Sterling for giving the people what they want

Can someone buy the Templar and run 1k through it and chime in? I'm a big fan but have yet to hear many range reports of the companies rifles.

Alright, you can get it with a trigger-tech trigger, which I think is great. My question is, does it accept standard AR triggers? The Trigger-tech is a great trigger, but some of us may have a Geissele sitting around for some unexplained reason that we might like to use.

You can get it with a milspec trigger to save money. The Templar takes standard AR-15 trigger pins, so I suspect the Geissele should work.

What would it take to chamber one of these in 6.5 Grendel? A lot of money??? Lol

Is it me, or does this look bulky and heavy?

i saw a prototype or at least pre-production version at the Big Bang show and it was much lighter than the other Crusaders...i would love one with the folding stock

Look at the SIG MPX/MCX, they all have bigger handguards. I can't help but think some make a bigger deal out it than it is. We've been spoiled by super slim BCM's and the like. Personally, I've never really liked them that slim. If it has a beefed up piston, I'd take reliability + a bit extra weight over slim all day. My biggest gripe is not have a chrome lined bore. But most others wouldn't care about that. We're all a bit picky, given the current climate. Ball-see to release a modern sporting rifle in Canada right now, so props to them.

They look alright, but why the big fat handguard?

The fat handguard is because of the way the non-reciprocating charging handle is made, it's contained in the handguard, hence the monolithic upper.

If you want one in 6.5 Grendel (I do!) it would just require a 6.5G barrel with a mid-length gas port (it would have to be a custom barrel, IBI?) and either a 7.62x39 (for Type-1 Grendel)or 6.5 Grendel (for Type-2) MCR/WK bolt.

Some of the Templar pictures show a redesigned charging handle while others show the older claw design. I wonder what's actually the production variant that people will receive.

The newer charging handle design looks totally decent.
