My experience with Taurus is that it depends on the model, and when it was made. Some of their older stuff is a bit crappy (the main exceptions being the Taurus 85 snubnose revolver, which is usually pretty good, and their 92 copy, which was made on tooling bought from Beretta, so they can't go far wrong), most of the newer stuff is pretty good with some exceptions, like the PT-908, I tried one and it was pretty gritty.
Anyway, don't say anything bad about Taurus, if it weren't for them we'd have almost nothing left to shoot in GB, as they make a long-barrelled revolver which is legal here.
Without decent service though you are seriously screwed, as Taurus is not a brand that people tend to stock parts for.
