The Truth about Taurus?

My experience with Taurus is that it depends on the model, and when it was made. Some of their older stuff is a bit crappy (the main exceptions being the Taurus 85 snubnose revolver, which is usually pretty good, and their 92 copy, which was made on tooling bought from Beretta, so they can't go far wrong), most of the newer stuff is pretty good with some exceptions, like the PT-908, I tried one and it was pretty gritty.

Anyway, don't say anything bad about Taurus, if it weren't for them we'd have almost nothing left to shoot in GB, as they make a long-barrelled revolver which is legal here.

Without decent service though you are seriously screwed, as Taurus is not a brand that people tend to stock parts for.

So it appears that its not the gun, but the location of the buyer. and the crappy service of the dealer.
I once owned three. A PT92 that never gave me any trouble, but I traded it off for a Ruger P345 since I prefer that to 9mm

Still own their stainless snubbie in 45LC which has been very reliable

The only one that had problems was the PT945
when new, it would fail to feed, leaving the slide part way open with a round halfway in the chamber. I sent it back and they repaired it no charge, (replaced the slide and something else.)
Second time was when the safety wouldn't engage. Sent it back and they repaired it, again free of charge. I still have it.
Apparently when they said a lifetime warrantee, they meant it.
the difference being..your geographical location..

I have a Taurus PT92FS with box and extra mags. I believe it to be same as a Beretta made with the same production equipment. I have not shot it much and the new mags are unused. It has the satin finish and the fancy wooden grips and a box as well. Will consider best offer. Please send PM. Thanks.

I own several firearms manufactured by Taurus. I have had the opportunity to shoot with pretty much everything that is out there. In most instances, it is safe to say that I like the Taurus products very much - cost x benefit. I have recently purchased the Taurus 24/7 and it works great even thought it will take a little getting used to the long but smooth trigger pull. I must admit that customer service and parts are going to be your greatest challenge. As far as some comments written by some individuals, it seems that they take pleasure in saying bad things about products they don't even know. To be quite honest with you, when an individual tells me Taurus products are crap and S&W and Colts are great but he never owned or fired a Taurus product before, it sends me a message telling me this individual is as useful as our gun laws. By the way, if you are concerned about service, parts, bang for your bucks, etc you could consider the CZs.

Is the Taurus 24/7 a Glock clone?

NAA what is it with you? just because it's a polymer framed gun (and a Taurus) it has to be someone's clone? Clearly it isn't...

Btw 24/4 has a 106mm barrel and is smaller than a Glock17/22. I handled one and it looked like a nice gun, but don’t plan on owning one (for now :p), since I'm not a fan of plastic guns.

Sorry, I know that since 'Taurus' is famous for 'copying' and 'improving' on 'others' handgun designs they might have been at it with 'Glock Perfection', too.

Taurus
My first Taurus, a Model 85, blew up and Taurus replaced it with no problem. I traded it for a Model 605. When the hammer stud broke on it, Taurus replaced it, again with no problem.

As soon as the new 605 arrived, I traded it for a S & W Model 649 which has turned out to be the most accuarate snub that I've ever owned.

There are no Taurus products in my future,
John

My opinion hasn't changed. When I'm at stores or shows, I don't even look at Taurus products,

John

JCM298. You see, this I can live with. Somebody who actually had a Taurus, experienced problems with it and decided not to ever buy another Taurus product. Well, at least you can talk about it from experience. Not like some other people that simply has no clue what he's talking about.

By the way, NAA, I have both the Taurus 24/7 and the Glock 17 and they are totally different guns. Whether or not it has been compared to the Glock or XD, I see it as a compliment because both of them are really good firearms as well. I wish the write-ups you quoted made you see things differently. I am not asking you to like Taurus products, I am asking you to have an intelligent opinion about them.

Starhunter, so what do you think of the 24/7?how does it compate to more $ glock?
IM Lugger, I found my target acquisition to be a whole lot better and faster with the 24/7. I have a problem with the angle of the Glock's frame (personal experience). The 24/7 sights are big and easy to line up. I also think that, out of the box, the Taurus trigger is smoother than the Glock's. It is a longer pull though. The 24/7 grip is awesome. Everybody I show the 24/7 says the same thing about it... it's very comfortable and will adapt to pretty much anybody's hand.

On the other hand, I am very concerned about parts and service for the Taurus. As you know, you can find parts for Glocks anywhere you go. Plus, they are very inexpensive. You can also make several modifications to the Glock that are not available for the Taurus. Just as an example, I had to look really hard to find a place that carried spare magazines for the Taurus.

Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of experience with Taurus and I absolutely enjoy them. Unfortunately, unless R Nichols steps up to the plate it is going to be very difficult for Taurus to compete in the Canadian market. I don't have any information whatsoever regarding the 24/7's reliability. I have purchased mine about a couple of months ago and already put through it close to a thousand rounds. So far so good, and it seems to be even better now. I hope it lasts a long time.

I guess you will have to make your own decision on this one. The Taurus is a little bit cheaper than the Glock, but could cost you more in the long run unless they offer better service and available parts in Canada.
