The Type 97 is back . . .

That pre-order is from 08, and since it's for seized rifles, I don't think so.

I don't even know why they still have it up.

No, you are incorrect.

They are taking orders for the NEW, resigned model that has ALL THE REASONS/SPECIFICATIONS TO BE MADE NON RESTRICTED COVERED (fingers crossed that the RCMP does their job and nothing more)...and I assume the price is correct, not an un-updated one from 2008...

You are 100% sure about this?

All pre-orders and prices stand. We are not going to be discussing anything else until everything cools down and an FRT is actually issued. Everyone please just chill and stop calling, we have actual orders to process

There ya go, from the source.

Cheers

I just figured that since it's been the same ad for the past 5 years....But I guess they're not charging full price for the pre-order anymore. Maybe I shouldn't have cancelled my order, although it was kinda hard to justify having $900 tied up for something I have never seen until now.

One of the industry people who is deeply involved in the whole T97 saga told me yesterday that, as of two weeks ago, the RCMP firearms lab in Ottawa has not recieved a new sample for a "T97NSR". So, the sample isn't even in yet. Perhaps it is still being built in China. Who knows?

The last attempt to get a "Type 97" classified was the "T97NS Prototype" which was found to be "Prohibited" last year (on the basis that it fell within the definition of "automatic firearm" as that term is defined in the Criminal Code - same as the T97A's).

The same industry guy is telling me that, you can probably bank on the RCMP waiting around for 18 months to even look at a T97 prototype. Whether that is true or not, who knows, but one thing is for sure: No FRT is going to be issued unless and until a working sample is recieved and tested.

That is on the NS side. CanAm is also going to be submitting a sample under a separate process, but that hasn't happened yet either.

So, can it be done? Yes, I don't see why not. My view is that they are going to need a totally different reciever, as well as a totally different trigger group from what was used on the T97A. Whether the appropriate steps have been taken to do this, I'm not sure. Whatever happens it won't be happening this year. I think the best estimate is probably something like 2 years until you will see T97's in the stores - early 2015 maybe.

The gun is a complete rebuild, parts are not the same and the gun will be unable to take the full auto parts...your friend who is "close the this" should know that. And I am 99% sure, the RCMP has one to do their testing on.

There was no sample received as of two weeks ago. This is based on a phonecall made directly to the lab.

The truth is, none of us know the details of the T97NSR, whether it is a "complete rebuild" or anything else. We know that NS's last attempt, the T97NS, was classified "prohibited", so presumably they have made some changes and are not simply just banging the same head against the same wall, but that prototype is not sitting in the lab awaiting an imminent "non-restricted" FRT#. No new prototype is there at all. Feel free to phone up the lab and confirm it for yourself if you think I'm incorrect.

It wouldn't surprise me if the CanAm sample makes it to the lab before the new NS sample. I really don't understand why NS jumped the gun the whipped everyone into a frenzy in December of last year. They are multiple steps away from even getting the legal classification, let alone bringing a new firearms to market.

I fully believe that something that looks like a Chinese service rifle is going to come back to the Canadian market. I worked very closely with CanAm Chris (among many others) in the Spring and Summer of 2011 on a T97A-related case. No one knows more about the T97 and what needs to happen to cause it to pass legal muster than Chris. I have no doubt of that. The only issue is the timing. It won't be this year. NS whipped everyone into a frenzy - getting them to believe that a new non-res T97 is coming in April of 2013. There is no possibility of this happening at this point, but I do think they will eventually bring a non-res T97-type firearm to market - particularly if CanAm's sample gets approved. That will "show the way" for everyone.

Isn't it possible that the rifles for the mounties to examine just haven't arrived yet?. all this doom and gloom is not good for anyone. I know we all want to have an NSR to shoot RIGHT NOW, but these things take time. I am trying to be patient, but it's hard.

I think that's the point ghostie is making. The sample isn't even in the RCMP's possession yet. And their classification process is lengthy. People are probably going to start attacking ghostie right now because they don't want the news to be true.... But that really doesn't make it less true. I for one appreciate actually having an idea of what's going on now. No point budgeting for the rifle for this spring at least.

How could the dealers be saying to expect the FRT within the first 3 months of 2013 if they RCMP have not yet recieved the rifle for testing?

Yeah Ghostie, we want a second opinion! Ask someone else, until we get an answer we like! Now please. You do realize I'm not buying other guns while I wait for this one, it's kinda important. If you think I should give up and buy other guns in the meantime, I'm cool with it, and will direct my wife to this thread to justify my purchases.
