The Type 97 is back . . .

NS should just make a simple statement of fact regarding the status of the T97 importation. The embarassment is minor if it's dealt with cleanly and honestly.

True. Coming clean is THE most effective public relations strategy of all. It takes all of steam out of your critics arguements, and puts you back in control of the message.

NS could clear everything up with a one sentence statement. I don't think it unreasonable to ask for that level of communication in this situation.

Agreed. The process is pretty clearly taking a lot longer than NS ever hoped for - or could imagine - and when they do issue their statement, I'll certainly give them the benefit of the doubt that they were trying to the right thing but that the process simply overtook them. Getting new semi-automatic versions of automatic firearms approved for sale in this country is a really tough business. It is long, frustrating, and getting longer and more frustrating all the time. I've got no problem giving them a "Mulligan" on this.

The only items you would be able to call "facts" would be a release from NS.

Rather revealing that we don't actually get this, isn't it? It suggests pretty clearly to me that the information I recieved from that dealer is... unfortunately... correct. The sample isn't even in yet, and this is going to go on for some considerable time to come. I note also that not a single one of you guys is willing to even pick up the phone to call in and get the information which would contradict what I reported to you. Wouldn't it be fabulous to tell "ghostie" he is wrong and has no idea what he is talking about? :) I've got the e-mail addresses for several of the people working at "Specialized Firearms Support Services" and have corresponded with some of them in the past. I'll see if I can get a comment on current T97 developments from them by e-mail and, if not, I think they would probably respond to a request from a firearms business licence holder.

BTW, I'm a lawyer not a firearms business licence holder, but I am a lawyer who is on a first name basis with most of the firearms industry here in BC. If I need to check something on the FRT I'm fine with asking one of one of my industry contacts to check it for me. I'm not claiming to be some kind of all knowing firearms guru, but I do claim to have enough resources to figure out when the firearms community is being sold a bill of goods.

One other point, I believe that a T97 (or at least something that looks like one on the outside) will almost certainly come back to the Canadian market at some point. When I was working on T97A in 2010-11, I got to know Chris Youngson (CanadaAMMO) pretty well. There was a period of time there where I probably spent more time with Chris, Travis Bader, Blair Hagan, Sheldon Clare, Sean Penney, and a host of others - either in person or through phone or e-mail - than I did with my own family. And through that experience I leaned that nobody has more passion for this T97 issue, or has put more into it, than Chris. The guy has practically made it his life's mission to make this T97 thing happen! If says he is eventually bringing a Canada legal version to maket (which he does), I believe him.

If NS is bringing their considerable resources into making a civi T97 happen, then that is awesome, Awesome, AWESOME! My only concern with NS is the manner in which they communicated with the dealers and with the public on this issue - convicing about 99% of the public... and at least some of the dealers... that a new non-restricted T97 either is, or is on the cusp of being, approved... and the firearms will be in stores this Spring. It's dealers and industry people that have since learned that this isn't true. I'm just the messager. If you guys want to shoot the messager because you don't like the message, go ahead. I'm fine with that. I've had to develop a tough hide in my day job. this little bit of snickering and jabbing online is nothing. It's actually pretty entertaining so far. I like the passion that most of you guys have for the T97!

People...use your head!!!

Coming clean means your telling the truth after a lie, no one is lieing to anyone (expect maybe all of these friend of a friend people)....MAYBE they are not saying anything because they currently have nothing new to share?!?! Who'd have thought...

I don't blame them, people here do and will find any excuse to freak out and call them lairs and jump down their throats and cause drama like little high school girls over nothing!!! Importing a gun from China is not easy...getting one redesigned is not easy, having the RCMP work cooperatively with you and in a quickly manor may be the hardest part of it all. I am 110% sure WHEN they have something new to share, they will...as they are the one who stand to make some serious $$$ over this.

I am sure that Wendy Cukier and the Coalition for Gun Control will be all over the T97 NSR if it ever sees the light of day.

Thats fine...she has been after the Ruger Mini-14 for longer then I have been alive. They (gun control members) hate ALL guns, just some "scare" them more because they are seen in movies in the hands of both heroes and bad guys killing 1000s at far ranges without having to aim or reload them.

I shot a Mini-14 once. I had to reload it often. I should write Wendy a letter to let her know she has been wrong all along, I mean I didnt turn into a ninja sniper and it ran out of ammo frequently. Much like every other semi I own or have shot. Wierd, very wierd... Whats this thread about nowadays anyways? Someone dream up some beef with Canam?

Did it have the extra evil black synthetic stock and a high powdered sniper scope tho?!

People always have beef...they see something new and they want it NOW, think they are constantly getting ripped off for the price, and so on. They think the process of importing and all the paper work and approvals is easy, cheap and fast to finish yet never try to do it themselves. Funny eh?

Dates for importing firearms and ammo almost never come on the original ones and buying from one country and selling to another is $$$ and you have to appease both countries laws. A good example of this is HK...they "do not hate you and think you suck", Germany's weapons laws and what is considered sporting is very different then other countries and they have to comply...the COUNTRY is not allowed to sell certain weapons to civilians (inside or outside of Germany) its not HKs policy. Same with their funky "night sights" because of us, meaning the allies who won WWII we made rules for them and they cannot export and possibly produce? ANYTHING that is radio active, even little pistol night sights.

But hey...this is all common sense and is easily found information with the internet, it just takes a brain and rational thought to seek out the CORRECT answers and reason why ____ rules/laws exist but in 2013, sadly, this is a lot to ask from people.

If there is no news, why not simply state that all rumours are false and that everything is going according to schedule? You seem highly opinionated on this matter despite the fact that you offer no actual logic as to why you suspect ghostie of misinforming everyone on this forum. Why would he lie? What does he stand to gain? It seems like it would be awfully easy for NS to make some type of statement to clear this whole question up.

I am not saying he is lying...and I cannot prove it either way...just like he cannot :)

People like to be "that guy"...the guy with the information, the guy with the friends in high places...the guy that has "contacts" so to speak. They exist is all forms and in all circles of loved actives/sports, be it boating or stamp collecting.

The things I have said about what NS has told us is my interpretation and opinion of a pretty cut and dry statement. The big difference is mine are based on LOGIC and common sense...no chicken little the sky is falling or RCMP insider man BS.

At this point I'm not even sure what it is we are debating on this thread, or what the problem is that people have with what I am saying.

I've stated three straightforward points:
(1) There is no FRT#;
(2) There is no new sample with the RCMP since the T97NS;
(3) There will be no T97's available for sale this Spring, and probably nothing until next year or even later.

Is there even anyone left out there that doubts the truth of these statements at this point? And if so, what do you rely on as the source of your claim?

There will be a sample with the RCMP "soon". CanadaAmmo Chris told me this week that they will be submitting their sample "soon" but that there is "no ETA" for a decision or product availability. If you don't believe me, phone Chris up and ask him yourself.

As for the "there is no new T97 sample at the RCMP currently" claim, I really don't see what all the hubbub is about that. I was surprised to hear that myself, as was the dealer who first told me this. It's the truth guys. Sorry. I wish we were all just a couple of months away from getting T97's at the post office too...but... sorry. It's not possible at this point. And on the "who's your source" stuff. C'mon guys, I'm not burning the dealer on this. I'm not doing that. It's one of the businesses that has a presence here on CGN...how about that... that's as much as I want to say.

The main thing though is... if you don't believe me... who cares? As I said above, I don't think there is realistically anybody left that believes they are getting a T97NSR in their mailbox this April or May. If there are some that still believe that, we are only 3 and 1/2 months away from a definitive answer. I am 100% confident with what I am saying. Are you?

anyone who questions Norinco (or chinese) quality really needs to study some history.

There used to be a time when goods Made in Canada, Made in Japan etc. were considered junk.

Do you remember when Hyundai first came to the market? They are a far different car today.

Ya but still wouldn't want to be seen in a Hyundai.

I would also like to see one in person before laying down $1000. You get to look over a whore before handing over your money same goes for rifles.

You state your claim...PROVE it?! THAT is the issue. I can claim anything...I saw a dinosaur today!!! Do I still need to prove it? Or because I CLAIMED it, its all that is needed for proof, correct?

Why are all the dealers only sharing info with YOU?! Who are you...why are you so special? What about the 100s of others with pre-orders, some with CASH down...why are they not being informed if all this is "fact and truth"?

PS. It is mid February now...sadly we ALL know we are not getting the T97 April-May...that is besides the point

PSS. If you didn't want to "burn your source" you wouldn't have said anything, not a word...that shows a real lack of respect and character as a whole as if he reads this or has people asking him about it he will know who shared the info. I used to know people like you...they are the ones who has 80 friends one moment and seem to lose them all over night...

I'd like to know how your "friend" gets info out of the RCMP firearms lab without being a controlling party of NS.

It's kind of like seeing the police at your neighbours house and calling the police detachment a few days later and asking for details of what happened, good luck with that.

Ghostie raises some good points here. I hope the T97NSR doesn't end up in the same boat (or shipping container) as the T97A's. It looks like the RCMP is going to do everything possible to keep these from hitting the Canadian market. (In the interest of public safety of course)... ;)

...how/why are they good points when they are not PROVEN...he is the only one saying these things...no one else nor dealers are saying this!!!

This is how cult leaders get followers I swear...people just accept others word like its FACT when its worded nicely.

Cult leaders also get followers when they say "Ohhhhh, the Lord hast given us a new T97!" and thousands of followers sign up for pre-orders.

Just saying.

LOL...nice try.

I can think of 15 + other guns that are not here yet that people want to be placed on a list for one or are currently waiting for theirs to come in, some for years now...its free, why not? The #1 thing we always end up waiting on is RCMP approval...SAPR anyone? The gun not being in country doesn't make it a fairy tale item and when/if they do come in country better hope your on a list or you will be waiting even longer because the numbers are always limited.

The gun, the T-97...it exist, its a real thing...it is just not "legal" in SOME of its current forms.

...I wonder if TVPass would be good enough to edit the title of this thread to something more appropriate, such as:

-Countdown to the T97
-The T97's ladies-in-waiting
-Can't Hardly Wait (for the T97)
-Someone kill me so I can go to T-ninety-heaven

I think that re-naming the thread would eliminate some of the cognitive dissonance that contributes to people getting cranky when they view this thread.

It's like... "Huh? Wha? T97 is back? Great! Maybe there's some news since last week". +click+
