The ugliest rifle I've ever built...

Cool rifle. Cool project. Probably look good after the metal is finished.

I don't think I've ever seen that little tab extension on a Mauser bolt release before.

What do you plan to do with it next (other than glass bed it)? What is the barrel length? With 6.5x55 I would stay at 22" for a good balance between velocity and the "handy factor".

I'm thinking of parkerizing the barrel/receiver and trigger guard. I'll probably add some sort of recoil pad and I like Ted's idea of the flip flop pad to keep cost low.

Because both my wife and daughter are very small people, I wanted the rifle very short so that they could use it in a pinch. I myself have no issues with short rifles even though I'm 6' 200lbs so LOP is currently 12" but will be extended to probably 12.5" with the recoil pad and with that in mind I kept the barrel short to maintain balance, at least somewhat. The barrel is 19.5". Not sure why I went with that exact weird number but whatever. It shoots and will have plenty of velocity and energy for the ranges it will be used.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

It’s actually very easy to draw file a barrel contour, I’d go for it on yours there, what’s to lose? I draw filed the contour on the little Hagn mini build, can get rid of the steps in a couple casual evenings while watching a movie. Just keep rolling the barrel and pulling the file in one direction only, chalk the file, though yours being CM shouldn’t plug it.

A blind man would be pleased to see it. Have seen away worse come into our local gun shop off the various trap lines and reservations for repairs. I like the Prince of Wales grip, that sets it off.

Turned mine on a drill press with 2 files in a jig one on each side to avoid barrel wip. Slow and easy checking often with straight edge and mic gage. Then cut at 19".

Looks great. The military stocks actually look pretty good when they are shaped properly. As for the barrel, hate to say it, but contouring it would look really good.
