I'm thinking of parkerizing the barrel/receiver and trigger guard. I'll probably add some sort of recoil pad and I like Ted's idea of the flip flop pad to keep cost low.What do you plan to do with it next (other than glass bed it)? What is the barrel length? With 6.5x55 I would stay at 22" for a good balance between velocity and the "handy factor".
It’s actually very easy to draw file a barrel contour, I’d go for it on yours there, what’s to lose? I draw filed the contour on the little Hagn mini build, can get rid of the steps in a couple casual evenings while watching a movie. Just keep rolling the barrel and pulling the file in one direction only, chalk the file, though yours being CM shouldn’t plug it.
Turned mine on a drill press with 2 files in a jig one on each side to avoid barrel wip. Slow and easy checking often with straight edge and mic gage. Then cut at 19".
