The very best factory bolt action sporting rifle in the world, no holds barred is...

Best at any cost is of course a custom, built off an Enfield or Mauser 98 action.

Best production would have to be the fabled Rifleman's rifle, the Pre-64 Winchester.

Best current (since I prefer the M-98 action clones) is either the Ruger M-77 or the CZ-550.

If you want a push-feed then the Sako/Tikka has to be the way to go, for out-of-the-box accuracy, although I dislike the tacky plastic Tikka's. Nobody ever votes for the Weatherby but I know that certain Weatherby models are also out-of-the-box M.O.A. guaranteed.

About the worst current production bolt gun is the M-700 Remington. Avoid the new ones and seek the old neglected Remmies. Anything prior to 1990 is pretty damn good.

Defining 'best' is pretty tough.

The nicest rifle I've personally handled, with the best trigger, fit and finish, smoothness of action and accuracy combined was a Sauer 202.

Of all time handsdown the M98
In recent times the 700Remington which of course takes its roots back to the 98 as do the majority of boltguns. Most of the bench rifles today are either 700's or a take off of one. Somebody said Savage and yup we are goin to see more of them. Plain and functional ;)
