The Yugoslavian M-48 Mauser discussion and photo thread

I did a review of my m48 almost a year ago: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1501331-Yugo-M48-Review

Military surplus ammo has reduced the shooting cost since last year. These are still a bargain! I can't believe that people aren't buying these up asap.

Here is a pic of mine:

That's a great looking M-48!

I got the Burris 2-7x32 Scout scope today and mounted it. It's not as bad as I thought it would look (IMO).
The nice thing is that no Milsurps were harmed in the process. The Brass Tracker mount is removable in less than 2 minutes so, it is far from permanent.
Anyways, here are some pix.

The picture below shows the front of the removable scope mount. It locks onto the side of the front sight by means of 2 brass set screws.

The rear of the mount is attached by means of a replacement recoil lug with 2 spacers and two allen head screws to lock it in place. (it's adjustable vertically as well.)

Looks good - where did you find the brass stacker? Is that pad sufficient for a good weld, or would you try a taller one?

Thanks!

If you want to have a good look at the Bad Ace Tactical mount do a google search for:

youtube bad ace tactical tudenom m48

and have a look at the review I put together. Unfortunately I can't link directly since there are CGN rules against promoting your own youtube channel.

The Bad Ace Tactical mount is as low as you can get, and it's a Canadian company out of the Maritimes. It's a really good product.

I ordered the Brass Tracker mount direct from the manufacturer in the US. The recoil pad seems to be the right height. I have not shot the rifle since installation so I'll report back once I do. Seems like a solid mount.

S&K scope mounts. Have one on my M48. No alteration to rifle, works great, Ill post a picture next time I have it out. Same make mounts on a 7x57 Brazilian Mauser and a M39.. Very happy with them.

After purchasing about a half dozen of these rifles in the past few months, I received what may be my second nicest example, ironically with the lowest S/N (9517) of the lot.
Still waiting on my 'smith to finish the install of the ZRAK scope & mounts, but with any luck it won't be much longer. I'll post some pix when I get it back.
In the meantime, here are some of 9517. It's still in the cosmoline, so it's a bit greasy yet. It may just stay that way.

Here you all go...

I just got one of my M48's back from the 'smith with the "new" Zrak M76 ON2 scope installed.
They are a neat bit of history that is rarely seen in Canada or the US in this configuration. I'm really looking forward to getting out an putting some rounds through it!

-For others planning to do this, you may have to remove some material from the back face of the rear mount, as there could be some interference with closing the bolt. From what I've read on other sites, it's quite normal.

-If you plan to zero the turrets on the scope, be VERY careful not to lose the tiny ball bearing when you lift off the turret. It should be covered in grease and may stick to the cap or the turret body, but... Be aware of Murphys' Law.

Richard,
Great videos! I've spent entirely too much time watching them over the past few days. Keep 'em coming!

It's true what they say. The Yugo Mausers are perhaps some of the best examples out there and many have never been issued. I just hope that they gain more of a collector status (and shooter status as well).

With factory ammo priced way too high, I fear that the only way to shoot them economically is to hand load. I purchased a few hundred PRVI cases from Tradex and some of their 198gr FMJBT bullets. I'd love to get some of the 175 gr ones to duplicate the Yugo load, but they are currently sold out. I've also purchased a 175gr. gas checked bullet mold along with some AA5744 powder that is supposed to be quite accurate. If nothing else, it will be cheap fodder for the range. I can say though that the 198 gr bullets are very accurate and I managed a sub 1" group at 100m with open sights. (the gun was front and rear bagged on the bench).

Cheerz.

Here's my contribution, my all-matching M98/48.
It's a bit of an odd ball with its completely scrubbed receiver. No indication of a Yugo crest present at all. The only thing I could find is a scrubbed out Vz. 24 marking on the sidewall. Some parts retain their German Waffenamt marks interestingly enough.
She's a beautiful shooter with an interesting history, that's for sure.

Guerre, That is a very nice M98/48. I bet it shoots like a dream. Do you have a preferred load for it?

We finally got some decent weather here on PEI, so I took one out for a first shoot. I think there was still some cosmo in the firing pin, or the Dominion primers they all went on the second pull though. I was using some cast 175 gr. bullets for this load and they showed decent accuracy, but nothing spectacular. I'll have to work the load over time or just shoot the 198gr FMJBT loads I had great luck with in the past.

Those ZRACK scopes look amazing...I'm am so close to just buying my own M48 and setting one up for that style of shooting.

I keep being distracted by Steyr's and Carcanos...little time for my Mauser. I did however buy 180 rounds of Portuguese surplus ammo which is considered to be some of the finest 8mm you can shoot. I'll have to bring a box over to the island this summer ;)
