So I went to the range yesterday and the RO tried to lecture me on gun safety, to which I responded: "Son, I had an AR-15 before you were born." Did those words really just come out of my mouth???

I guess you should have familiarized yourself on the ranges gun safety rules.
Old habits die hard.

What did you do to receive a little refreshment on gun safety???

Well judging by how you talk I don't know if I would feel safe with you around firearms. 'Ows that sound matey?! ARGHH

Just because you've been using that gun for years doesn't mean you are doing it right. As a matter of fact, as you become more comfortable with something after long repetitive use you usually end up making more mistakes then others.

No idea, nothing as far as I could tell and I couldn't follow what he was saying because it's a rifle range with people shooting rifles and I was wearing hearing protection. Hence my catch-all comment to reassure him I knew what I was doing.

Basically, "You should... BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG... and... BANGBBBBBANNG BANG BANG" followed by a quizzical look. I assume he was saying something about safety, could have been about hanging targets for all I know.

Actually if I read your username correctly you're slightly older than I am so :p I guess I had an AR-15 at a younger age for you to think that.

Actually my point was that it makes no bearing how long you've owned an AR as to the possibility of making a safety mistake. Like just owning one makes you a safe shooter 100% of the time (no one can claim to be 100% safe 100% of the time). The statement you made makes you sound kind of douchy.

If someone has been handling guns for 40 or 50 years and they haven't had any mishaps to date (or purposely harmed anyone)....its my conclusion they are most likely SAFE to be around with guns.
Moose hunting with a HK91 and plinking gophers with a colt AR15 HBar....Wow, its amazing how much safer the public is now that we can do the same with a XCR-M or a 18.5" barrel Bushmaster ACR and not the former!!!!
Thank you Kim, Wendy and Allan....errrrrrr NOT!!!!

Good chuckle. ^^^
Us "Old Guy's", we never ever actually do fork up, dontchaknow.

Cept'n, (prap's) ... dat most unfortunate '70's era 1100yd HK91/20rnd tracer mag dump ignited ... grass fire.
OMGawd ... :runaway:

No worries, we got her extinguished long before the handwringer's showed.
A quick diaper change, & they went right back to their wine'n an a cheese'n.

Alas, unlike our long-lived Fudd's, ... that HK is no more.

As long as you don't start writing like "Kamlooky" you'll be fine
Hang in there 'looky, we need good humor 'round here.
