Their replies are not necessarily aimed at you directly, [well some are :D ]but to ALL the men who would jepordize their lifes obbsession by letting some else tell them what to do.

Yes your wifes laps of reasoning has been resolved, but there may be a few other men who can learn from your post and the replies made to it.

I think itsacookbook has the situation well taken care of, but I, like many on this forum, would rebel when/if someone threatens to impose more hoops for us to jump through....the Liberal Gov't has already thrown too many obstacles in our path .
In my case, the Missus is glad to get me out of the house , be it hunting or fishing . In fact she had her own licenses...until the grandkids came along , now she's too busy/having too much fun with them to want to go hunting . They (the Missus and daughter ) don't impose their fixation with the (grand)kids on me ...especially during hunting season....well not too many times that is :lol:
Life is full of compromises . Hunting is not one of them , in my book .
Besides ...it IS nice to get back home after camping out .....for both of us .

re: 3) Several people have taken personal shots at itsacookbook throughout this thread - why only now on page 5 would you begin to 'strictly enforce the rules'?

re: 4) Pointing out how another culture lives isn't racist - it's the culture itself that is racist and intolerant. I believe that Canadian Hunter was responding to what Republic wrote about other cultures' attitudes about men and women, so his example was not inappropriate or offensive, unless you're personally inclined to oppress your wife. Afghanistan is probably the perfect example of how women in some cultures are horribly oppressed, and it stands in clear contrast to our own Canadian values. The truly disturbing and insulting thing about the Afghanistan reference is how the Afghanis (and so many others) treat their women. It is not racist or offensive that someone pointed out how the Afghanis treat their women, it's the treatment itself that is wrong and I would argue that, as Canadians, we have not only the right to speak up about it, but an obligation to do so. There are probably some men here in Canada who would like to treat their wives that way, but if our culture tolerated it, we would soon be as backwards and oppressed as Afghanistan. No thanks.

Not that I needed any convincing but this thread is a good reminder that this site for all its many virtures is not the place to seek advice on either marital or race relations. :wink:

Opinions are fine, solicited or not, but it seems to me that you either enforce the rules for everyone all the time, or for no one none of the time. Selectively enforcing the rules only when someone writes something you don't like isn't ok.

I agree that there are probably some Afghani men who don't think that way - not everyone in any culture buys into the dominant thinking, and I agree that I may have inappropriately painted them all with the same brush. However, I think it's difficult to argue that oppressing women isn't part and parcel of their culture. The Taliban may be gone from Khandahar and Kabul, but the attitudes and beliefs run deep and their influence is still strongly felt outside the big cities (the Taliban isn't completely gone, hence the continued presence of the Yanks and Brits and the redeployment of Canadian troops). I'm picturing in my mind the images of women being shot in the head for various reasons. There's a reason why that doesn't happen here. Women here may not yet have attained fully equal status in every realm, but we're much closer to it that the Afghanis.

I still think it was a good example to illustrate the contrast in our cultures, but I think we're getting way off topic. Itsacookbook - have a great and successful hunting trip, and I hope you enjoy and appreciate coming home to your unoppressed, respectful and thoughtful wife. :D

PS: The day my wife says no more hunting is the day I visit the divorce lawyer ;) And yes, I AM married. And she knows this too - made it clear BEFORE we got hitched :twisted:
