I read this post on another forum this morning:

Welcome to the world of hunting with the ill-informed, unskilled, 1,000 yard marksman. If you’re not into reading disturbing rants, no offense intended to you or anyone else, please consider reading another thread. Absolutely none of this is pointed at the good folks who come here with honest questions after they’ve done a bit of research themselves and seek some educated guidance. Bless every single one of them for asking because they want to do the right thing.

But some of this is just plain upsetting.

On the always-true internet today I read the following on various hunting / shooting forums (Seriously, I did. My computer monitor is large enough to do a split screen. So I copied from the post on the left and pasted it into a Word document on the right):

“I want to shoot an elk at 1,000 yards. What should I buy? A .243, a .308 or a 30-06? I heard the.243 was best because it shoots the flattest.” A You-Tube watcher for sure.

“165 gr 30 caliber bullets are not suitable for deer. 180 and 200 grain are the best.” This from an individual who was posting reloading formulas and condemning the various .270 calibers as “useless.”

“There’s nothing the .270 WSM can do that the .280 Remington can’t do better.” Really? You sure about that?

“I can reload my 7mm-08 up to the same speeds as your 7mm Remington Magnum.” Can I watch this test? From over there on that hill?

“Accuracy at the range is just plain overrated. If I can hit a running deer at 100 yards, so can you!” Uhhhhhhh,………..no comment.

“Expensive bullets are a waste of money. Buy the cheapest ammo you can find. They always work for me on moose!” This must’a been Homer What’s’hisface.

“There aint no difference between scopes. Trust me, expensive ones just cost more and don’t work no better.” Likely taken from an El Cheapo Gun Shop 50% off coupon.

Discussing wolves – protected in some states: “Shoot it in the guts so it’ll just go off somewhere and die and no one will know.” My revulsion after reading this,………our Moderator will delete my comments for sure.

“If you’re looking for a good, long range elk rifle, get yourself a .260 Remington. It shoots flatter and hits harder than a 30-06.” Where do you start with a statement like this?

I had to think about whether or not I would post these comments here. Not sure why but I have. Just depressing.

wow just never know whats going to come out of some people ,but as far as cheap ammo ,there is something to it ,cheap one ounce slugs are just fine for deer and blue box fed in the varmint cals work just as good as the high price stuff out of my guns ,,the coyotes do not know the diff ,,Turkey loads can be miss leading as well are the turkeys going to be any more dead with the heavy shoot that cost 45$ for 5 shells or with the long beard that cost 15$ for 10 shells ,I killed a ton of turkeys with good old fed flight control shells at less then 20$ a box Dutch

Nothing like the "Internet Experts". Unfortunately one of the hazards of an open forum. I used to be drawn into the fracas but there is really no point.

When I was a kid the old bastards use to argue what was better between the 30-30 and 32 special.....they are sooo goddamn similar it's pointless. Lol

Funny, always wanted to ask around, to see if anyone here spent any time on other gun forums.

Would be curious to know if, when "we" send letters, if "they" do as well. Almost wish there was a little coordination between the different forums. Wishful thinking maybe.

It's hard enough to get two gun owners who agree with each other, to agree with each other..

That's some impressive internet gun knowledge! Can't say I'm surprised since the internet seems to be degenerating into a bunch of basement dwelling mommas boys taking videos of their cats.

I learned pretty quick about the "wrestling the pig in the mud" syndrome that gets so much air time on these forums. I just post quick notes and a few pics now as I don't have the patience for the inexperienced "keyboard experts" that seem to dominate most threads on here these days.........there are a few guys worth reading and commenting on, but very few, I have found. There is just so much drivel, such as is posted in the OPs opening post.

Yeah. I was once a member of NB coyote hunting til a video of 2 "hunters" posted them in a hide with a quart of JD and 24 of beer. The video got interesting as it went on. Anyway I got heavily chastised for taking them to task for posting the video. No explanation could make em understand how bad such a vid was for the hobby.

Shoot an elk at 1000 yards ... Elmer Keith back from the dead?

He would have used enough gun though and he would have known how to use it to accomplish the task.

The stuff you read on gun forums is entertaining, no doubt about that.

Some days I think manditory hunter qualifications as done in places like Sweden and such would weed out a large segment of stupidity from the Canadian hunting community but then again having to scroll through pages of freetard style rant posts about it would be rather teidious.
