Can someone explain to me what a gopher hunt is? I didn't realize people would travel to do this.
Gophers are not dumb, they have good memories, and they've seen alot of nice rifles, so your's may be another HO-HUM to them, but maybe if they see that bolt knob, they may well stay in their holes.
I might have to try another .17 HMR, my experiance in the past was anything but splatterific. Maybe the first batch of ammo was different then it is now because I never saw a single gopher so much as pop when hit by the V-max bullet. Ditto for the V-max bullet out of the WMR. Go hollow or go home is the safest bet, but you already know that.
And again, with the winds we have here your friends shooting the .17 won't be able to compete with your .22 and even if you shoot on a calm day you'll be more then a match for them.
Nice rifle by the way.![]()
Hey Pharaoh2~got a chance to put a pile of ammo downrange yesterday, and to my disappointment, those Supremes didn't really shoot worth a damn in my Savage. In fact, in one box alone, I had 4 FTF and one round with badly flattened/dented brass on one side~something I've never seen. I shot at 40 meters to sight in, was easily getting tight groups. Move-out to 100 meters (110 yards) and it was all I could do to get them in the 2" ring. I'm intrigued by your gopher experience with them, so I'll have some on hand for sure...but the rifle seemed to show a strong preference for the Hornady 30gr. V-Max. 4/5 of these in, or on the edge of the 1" ring. Not match accuracy, but gopher-worthy, I say yes! I chose to shoot on the bench using my bipod, as that's the way I hunt...but to decide which ammo I'll be buying in bulk~rest/bag next time.
