Thinking about a MkIII 22/45

A little late, but it is:

-Pull back bolt to #### it, release the bolt
-Insert empty magazine
-Pull trigger, safety must be off and magazine must be in
-Remove magazine
-Pull out the mainspring housing (at back of grip) latch, swing it upwards, then, while holding this assembly with your fingers close to the grip, pull downards to remove the housing
-Point muzzle upwards, pull the trigger, catch bolt as it falls out.
-Pull barrel assembly off the grip

Reassembly
-Place barrel assembly back on grip
-Slide bolt back in, making sure that the hammer (squareish pice of metal when looking through where the bolt goes) is down.
-Point gun muzzle down, push the hammer forward and inwards to give the mainspring housing space to move
-Re-insert mainspring housing assembly through the hole in the bolt
NOW THIS IS WHERE THE MANUAL ####S IT UP
-Insert empty magazine
*Instructions are back to being correct now
-Point muzzle up, pull trigger
#### UP AGAIN
-Remove magazine
*Back to being correct again
-Swing mainspring housing back into place

The manual has it all correct up until the part where you're supposed to point the muzzle upwards, pull the trigger, and swing the housing back in. If you don't insert a mag before you pull the trigger, be prepared to have the mainspring housing fall out over and over. Hope this helps.

I just got my MkIII 22/45. Started following the manual on reassembly   . Said screw it and free-styled. Got it together.....finally  . Can't wait to get this out to the range on Monday. I've got a red-dot on order for it as well :D .

(E)

Just got my 22/45 in the mail today:D

Purchased on July 3.
Took 2 wks for the CFO to register and fax back to Wholesale Sports (July 17).
Received the goods July 20. Not bad...

That's a fun looking little .22. What length is the barrel on that? 4.5"?

Right, it's a 4.5" bbl. IMHO it looks best with this length bbl. How it will shoot
....only time and practice can tell;)

Not to mention that the 4.5" version is the same over-all length as the standard 1911 .45 cal pistol. Kinda cool.

BTW, I ordered one from Wholesale Sports and received it just over a week later... Must've cleared the CFC/CPFO in record time. Am keeping my MkII until I figure out if I like the 22/45 MkIII as much, then just might part with the MkII...

postscript... wish the magazines for the MkIII didn't feel so cheap... :(

Nine might chime in, but I believe he got rid of his MKII after "playing" with his new 22/45 MKIII (if that means anything to you).
Why do you say the 22/45 MKIII mags feel cheap? (They do feel different compared to my S&W 41 mags.)

I got one of the 22/45 4 1/2" last year. For what it's worth I think it's a POS, quite dissapointed even for $310. I don't quite like the plastic frame, the internals are overly complicated for a .22LR, it's a real pain in the ass to take apart and put together, it has some feeding issues. I think there are better options.

If I were to do it over again I'd get the following. For an ammo burner, cheap fun blaster the Norinco M-93 Woodsman. For a more accurate practice gun the Buckmark Target or Field, or any of the other Buckmarks that suit your needs.

15 years ago I had a Buckmark with a 10" bull barrel scoped, I regret selling it since it was easy to maintain, reliable, and super accurate. With Elley Tenex I got a dollar sized group at 50M with 10 shots. If we could hunt with pistols that would have made a fine small game gun.

In my opinion the Buckmark is the better gun.

Took my new 22/45 MKIII to the range today and here's what I found...

Brought some Federal 525 bulk pack, Federal bulk pack(red box with eagle), and some Aguila SE ammo. The first 20 rounds with Federal 525 had no Fail to Eject or Fail to Feed issues, at all!. The next 20 rounds were loaded with Federal 525 and Federal "red/eagle" box. Had about 5-6 FTE/FTF's. Was not sure which ammo caused the problem but loaded 20 more rounds and it appeared that the Federal 525's weren't ejecting and the next round was getting jammed at the ramp (bent the bullet from the casing). Spent 50 rounds of Aguila SE...and didn't have a single FTE/FTF! Decided to load 20 more rounds of Federal 525 & "red/eagle"....did not have a single FTF/FTF:D
Fired another 50 rounds of Federal 525 without incident. (Perhaps the spring in the mags had to get worked a bit).

Overall, I liked my new toy and will be selling my S&W 41 (as a partial towards a Colt Python). It doesn't go "bang" like the 92FS or 686 but it's cheap to shoot (and I went through a lot of rounds);)
