thinking of getting wife a gun for christmas

I bought my wife a gun for her birthday a few years ago, ended up being a 12.5” tube fed grizzly of all things haha. This is what I did to present it in a way the she had the final say, after all she had to like the damn thing and not me. We were talking about guns one day and once the new 12g I had came up I said would you like a shotgun of your own? As in all yours to do what you want with, I won’t touch it unless you offer. Your birthday is in a few months and if you like I’ll buy you one for your present, you’ve mentioned those shorty’s recently. Think about it and let me know, a month later I brought it up again and left it at that. Just before her birthday hit she told me she’d like a grizzly, the grin on her face the first time she shot some target load and broke a couple clay I threw was priceless. Didn’t take her long to work up to some 2 3/4” slugs.

A Remington 1100/11-87 in 20 gauge with target loads is a very soft shooting gun. They seem to fit everyone, and in walnut and blued steel they are very pretty guns. Almost elegant.

How about a Henry lever in .22 or a Marlin 39 if you're a big spender?
If she's on the adventurous side you could team it up with a cowboy hat n boots and some assless chaps! The possibilities are endless!

good question. I am thinking a .22 may be a better first gun for me to buy her. my original thinking was that she likes shooting my 10 22 but not my shotgun.
was thinking id get her more variety.
in all honesty neither of us do a lot of shooting.
though we both enjoy it when we go.

Go with something that she likes to do, so go with another .22 that will add to what you already have. She will eventually see the light and get bored with punching holes in paper and come to see the light and want to shoot shotgun (LOL).

When you do get her a shotgun, you have to ask her "Why don't you like shooting my shotgun?" The answer she gives you will be a good place to start. Often, the issue around shotguns is that they can be an unpleasant experience, if they get slapped by the shotgun, so ... it usually comes back to gun fit. Then you look at shotguns that are designed to shoot the targets you wish to shoot and most important, that fit her.

thanks again. am going to looks at .22 bolt actions.
that way it will be 100 percent hers. dont want her to feel forced into a shotgun. want her to be happy when she pucks up whatever i buy her.

Black Friday is coming up this week, narrow your choices down to a couple of guns your interested in, and buy the best deal.

My wife has a bow and hse loves shooting it, and hopes to next year bowhunt with it, which is cool with me, we have our range visits where she goes and does her bow thing and I do my gun thing. We were cleaning out the storage area under her parents stairs and found her 10/22 that her father got her in the mid 80's when she was a kid, and she was excited to have it back so early this year she got her PAL and RPAL and she did some shooting and really enjoyed it, though my 300 win mag was wayyy too much recoil for her, and even the 30-06 was causing her to flinch and she expressed that she wasn't a big fan of it. She enjoyed shooting my pistols, so I figured what the hell, transfer a pistol to her in case some handgun crap happens, then she has one, and then started thinking about getting her a rifle to hunt with.

I just finalized the purchase of a 6.5x55 Swede, should be more than good for her to use, guess we'll find out.
