This .22LR shortage is starting to piss me off.

I agree it sure is a PI$$ off!

Surely they can produce more, but for some reason don't bother..... Everytime I drive by a Wholesale Sports or Cabelas, or Crappy Tire I stop to have a look...

Not true. All manufacturers we have talked to say they are running at capacity 24/7.

22 ammo seems to be in a boom or bust cycle ; one day you go in to CT or Walmart , and they have all kinds , go in three days later , and all sold out without any restocking date in sight . Was into Walmart yesterday , and all they had was three boxes of Win. 555 at 25 . 46 per box ; I bought two , and left the last one for the next customer . I asked the counter staff when the next shipment would be in , but her data gun had an iindetermined date . Went to CT , and they only had one box left of I believe was the M-22 stuff at 40 bucks per box......I have a feeling that the falling Canadian dollar is going to have a big affect on ammo prices....

I watched a nut n fancy gun review he said the 22lr drought is now 2 years old , the review was made 8 months ago. I have enough 22lr for about 1.5 years if things don`t improve by then I will forget about it. I enjoy shooting but if I have to pay $ 50-60 a brick ( if you can even get it ), plus range membership plus the price of the occasional new firearm. Well I guess we will see what happens in the next year or so.

I don't get the issue with people and .22 LR.
I bought 2000 rounds of the stuff over 3 years ago.
I shoot about 40 - 50 rounds every time I go out. I still have gads of it left. What the hell are people doing with the stuff when they go out? Just shooting from the hip for 3 hours into a fackin' tree stump?

Remember well; those who know when enough is enough, will always have enough.

Well said.

On a side note; walmart (on van isle) had the win 333s for $15 + tax.

2 hours shooting gophers in a good spot and you go through 500 rounds. Spend 6 hours in the gopher patch a few days a month and you go through ammo pretty quick.

When I shoot rimfire at the range it's usually at spinners or silhouettes. Easily a few hundred per go.

An active rimfire shooter will go through thousands of rounds a season. The stash can dry up fast when times are lean.

How long does it take you to shoot 40-50 rounds ? I go through 300 easy in a range trip takes a few hours. What do I do you ask? I usually bring a rifle and a pistol . I shoot those re sealable champion spinners, sometimes throw a few golf balls on the berm and of course paper targets. No tree stumps involved. Isn `t that what you are supposed to do at a shooting range? Maybe I am missing something.

Today in my local CanTire store I was pretty annoyed at the price gouging. Saw the first 22lr they had in a long time.
Boxes of Remington Thunderbolt 500 rds for $39.99!
50 rd boxes of Remington subsonic for just under $9
50 rd boxes of Winchester Wildcat for $5.47 approx.
Ridiculous.

There are other vendors in town with more reasonable prices. I can buy 100 CCI Mini-Mags for about $10.00
500 round boxes of thunderbolt for $28, and today I bought a Remington bucket of 1400 rds for $88.
So despite the shortage I actually have about 5000 rounds of 22.

I can easily blow thru a 500 pack in an afternoon shooting at spinners and enjoying my Mark II FV... Gophers shooting takes lots of good ammo too.

I never shot only 40-50 rounds of any calibers I own... not worth it :p

I was in WSS yesterday and they must have had 40-50 flats of federal .22LR (325 round packs x 10 to a flat). Most .22LR in a single place that i've seen in ages..

It's very easy to shoot 200 to 300 rounds in one trip to the range -- especially with 110 round drums and an SR22.
Not sure how you manage only 40-50 rounds! Must be a revolver guy.

I shoot a brick plus each time to the range... and for the most part I am not shooting semi's...

You are not the norm, Travis Bickle.

When I go to the range, it is usually for half a day... I mix centerfire and rimfire shooting... 200-300 centerfire rounds and a brick plus of rimfire is the norm... all the guys I shoot with do the same...

I enjoy shooting...

I was at Cabela's in Barrie this past Saturday morning. The ammo clerk gave me the following:

-they are all out of .22 LR at this moment
-they "might" be getting a truck in this week
-people are buying as much as possible when it is in stock, often 2-3 guys taking a whole shipment's worth
-they are probably instituting "per customer" limits of 2 boxes; in his words, "selling less .22 LR to more people"
