just came back from hunting by dease lake and the local indian band decided to shut us out from our hunting grounds that weve been using for 10 years and have limited entry draws for. and no this was not reserve land so we make the best of bab news try hunting somwere else only to 2 days later be chased out by 3 truck&van loads of guys saying to leave the area or else we will give you big problems(peaple up the road got 4 slashed tires and came out on rims and another got antifrezze in the fuel tank)the police said exact words we are not touching this subject call the conservation officer andhe was nowere to be found numurus calls and a visit to the yard in dease and i pay taxes for this and buy hunting licecnes:bangHead:
 
This stuff is bad news. I have been noticing stories about this sort of activity in BC a lot lately, and it's going to spread across Canada. The panty-waisted attitude of government officials has spread down to their enforcement officers so that laws are mere suggestions to certain people at this point. :)ban:)

Of course, it's just a case of government sticking its head in the sand. This problem will not go away, and sooner or later, someone is going to get shot. If you get angry people confronting each other with weapons, inevitably violence will break out. I don't neccessarily think this would go overly well for the Indians either - they have a lot of M14s and probably SKS rifles packed away (allegedly), but there are a LOT of racist hunters and fishermen who would jump at the chance to take out their hatred. (Just to carefully make myself clear, I don't blame Indians for taking advantage of their treaty rights, because all of us would do the same thing in their boat. I am not racist against Indians or anyone else. I just despise lawbreaking and bullying, no matter who the perpetrators are. I am NOT a fan of lawless violence against any ethnic group).

It's not just Indians who are the problem either (although it's funny how first of all SOME troublemaking Indians - I certainly wouldn't paint them all with this brush, nor would I imply that whites are any better - are anal sticklers about getting all their treaty rights twisted to suit them down to a T, but as soon as they decide that's not enough, they overstep that same treaty). Around here, the jackasses who get uppity in moose and bear season especially, but also in duck and deer season, are ridiculous. Game wardens don't want to touch them, but ignoring the problems won't make them go away.

Worst-case scenario (if you are really desperate to hunt and are willing to live with years of consequences), leave someone behind with your vehicle, armed (it is hunting season, right?). If the rest of them want to attack you while you are carrying loaded rifles/shotguns, the law affords you the right of self-defence. Make sure everything you do is videotaped. The video evidence can easily be used against you either, as it would look more like a trap than a real self-defence scenario. Judges are not idiots. I would be carefull with that.
 
Go to the news papers. Contact your MLA and MP. Stand up for your rights. They keep pushing it further and further and nobody will stop them, so they keep going. Do not stop until this is adressed on a large scale and the public can see what they are doing. It has to start somewhere, so take a stand.

Try to avoid the lawyer route. The law favors those with the deepest pockets, and if the other side can outspend you, you loose. Its better to go public and see what happens from there. The RCMP need to be rebuked for refusing to act as threats, assault, and property damage are well within their mandate.
 
If the land in question is in fact aboriginal lands..as in reserve land then natives have the right to refuse entry. I have a big problem with first nations groups claiming that crown lands are infact their "traditionl lands" and things like this happen. Nothing good comes out of acts like the aforementined. Can only be a small minority of the most narrow minded and ignorant first nations people that would carry out these acts of vanalism.

Holy crap. And the cops would not take the matter up ? I'd take that as a sign that it would be ok to get a bunch of guys together and go back in there and kick those indians out of there, law or no. If the place you hunt is not on reservation land, they should not be allowed to force you to leave.
We have problems here too, especially in Walmart when the local braves come in and like to make out that they have it all over everyone else. They are extremely rude, pushy and once a big fat "brave" pushed my wife out of his way to get at something in an isle, when I was not there of course. She had our daughter with her as well.
I find it absolutely asinine that the RCMP would not follow this up. I am sure that if we went on to a reservation and started pushing them around , we would sure as hell be in the clink faster then you coulsd say spit.
 
Wildlife Federations

I heard they were at it again, unfortunately it only takes a few to spoil it for everyone on both sides of the issues. I haven't heard of anyone bothering the Guides or outfitters in that area. The Guides have a pretty strong lobbying of government. If the local hunters don't learn to organize and join the wildlife federations (and lobby government with large numbers), "you will" end up with nothing. I would urge all the hunters and fisherman to take more interest in what's happening to our sport in Canada, join your local rod&gun club and the wildlife federation.

The only thing that will ever stop those militants from blocking hunting roads, or blocking border crossings or highways for that matter, is for our provincial and federal governments, and police forces, to make on thing crystal clear:

Doing so will cause huge public, media and political fallout at the time, but we will all be far better off for it in the end.

That is how Oka should have been handled. Roadblocks (IMHO) are acts of terrorism. I don't envy the position Treaty Indians are in but there are better avenues to resolve the problems.

I would definately contact the media on this to shed some light on the issue. If the wrong people found themselves in the same situation things could get ugly fast. That would solve nothing.
 
Yes. This topic has actually been done up one side and down the other here on CGN; most agree, but in the end the men pulling the strings don't have the stones to tackle this growing problem in Canada. The militants kicked CBS out of their own border station FFS!
 
Do yourself a favor and just move on. Free land is no more. It's all about groups of thugs claiming there right to it and no one in authority cares. They're afraid to confront anyone in the bush with guns too.
