this is bullsh**

H4831,

Respectfully I disagree. I'm not trying to start an internet battle, as I can understand what you're saying. I just have a bit more faith in the media, and in political embarassments, to wager that something would get done if enough people were to stir up a hornets nest.

I'm not suggesting that by contacting those above, that they will support your claims, quite the contrary actually. But if we have on record government bodies that are supposed to represent the People purposely turning a blind eye when illegal activities are taking place, THAT is something that all the general public should be concerned about. And THAT is something that the media should be aware of.

If they (the public) aren't, then I'm ashamed of my country. And that isn't something I say lightly.

Yes, you're correct. But that's only in regard to fish in certain areas, not animals. They can't legally sell meat of wild animals anywhere in Canada, my understanding.

I'm not confused. If it was legal for them to sell wild meat, we'd be out of animals.

BTW, you're preaching to the choir. :)
I guess you are not familiar with people paying to have their tags filled, and I am not talking by guides. I do not promote this activity as it is illegal, and find it disgusting that some people regard it as hunting when they are simply too lazy to go do it.

hansol,
I too, see what you mean, but it is a very complicated situation.
I think the native claims is the most important challenge facing BC. The various bands of natives are claiming over 100% of BC. No, I didn't make a mistake, the overlying claims, of the different bands, encompasses more land than all of BC. Some treaties have been settled and those have given great benefits to the natives, at the expense of the rest of us.
We had a provincial NDP government when a huge, important treaty was signed with the natives, which gave them the key to a large area of BC. Our present premier, Gordon Campbell, then in opposition, went through the motions of of being raging mad about it. He got into power, heading a Liberal government, but being critisized for being too right wing, on the basis of being fair to the rest of us, on native settlements. "94% of the people are not native, and we have rights," he would expound at every opportunity, and in particular to the hunting, fishing and outdoor groups. He promised a provincial vote by the people, before any treaty would be signed.
Once in power he has, and is, giving away more to the natives than the NDP ever did. Thus, we have no political party to turn to.
Treaty, and native claims, is a federal and provincial government chore. Both Federal parties have been equally behind the natives on these settlements.
Judging by the portion of salmon given to the natives on claims already settled, by the time all claims are settled, there will be no salmon left to allocate to the rest of us, either for commercial of sport fishing!
It will take the courts to help us out. Not a good outlook, because in the past, courts have usually been smpathetic to the natives.
The BC Wildlife Federation are hoping for a Supreme Court fight, which will be very expensive, but virtually our only hope.
Please divert your efforts, all you BC hunters, and every other person who would like to keep on enjoying public land, and support the BCWF. Your local club is likely affiliated, so try and get every one you can to join the fight, join your local fish and game club.
