This is why people hate hunters..

The other day, a couple of us were walking on a side trail, just before it met up with the main trail (which is big enough to drive a vehicle on). We were rounding a small bend just before the two trails met, and literally separated from the main trail by less than 10m of shrubbery, when a guy stopped and fired into the shrubbery from inside the cab of his truck. All he had to do was look up and he would have seen our blaze orange on the side trail. We rounded the bend a little shaken up, and the guy looked at us and hit the gas...pausing just long enough to look in his mirror, probably to see if he had actually just shot somebody, and then took off.

That's messed up, some people are just retarded. Glad you got out safe, that could've been bad news bears

Are you kidding? Kin Cuz We shoot? Re-apply AS A HUMAN AND A HUNTER V`WHEN AND IF YOU GROW UP.

I grew up decades ago, and as much as I would like to insult you back, I'll refrain...being an adult and all...
"Hunters" that trespass, poach and shoot horses ain't no kin of mine.
Target shooters, the black rifle crowd, the milsurp gents...they are. My signature means it doesn't matter what kind of IRON you run, or if you shoot paper, deer or ducks...

Who are you talking to?

He's referring to my sig line.

Guess I'm supposed to count the poacher who shot my buckskin stallion as part of my shooting brethren...

I know...don't feed the trolls... :)

New law: "You have to be at least 10 meters away from a motorized vehicle, with a loaded gun." That should keep us safer from those lazy buggers. Penalty: You lose everything you own within those 10 meters.

So I'm on the Trent river in my blind, aiming for geese.. first pair of hunters post up across from me and I swear they're shooting ducks when duck season isn't open yet, aka poaching.. next pair of hunters, are in a damn pontoon boat, trolling with the motor down, calling geese all the way up the river being dicks. Is it just me or does this upset anyone else here?

so, I guess we have these f@!kers all over the world (SA has the truck hunters / shooters)...giving the impression to non hunters that ALL hunters operate the same...

If you were posting as you were hunting on September 17th you may have had some hunters participating in Waterfowl Heritage Day. Legal to be shooting ducks for mentored youth hunters, the Saturday before the general opener. This would make your complaint just about others legally hunting in the same area as you.

from the Regs, dates and explanation are quite prominent and hard to miss

"Waterfowler Heritage Days provide young hunters who are minors (under 18 years of age) with the opportunity to practise hunting and outdoor skills, learn about wildlife conservation, and reinforce safety training in a structured, supervised environment. Licensed adult hunters who serve as mentors have an opportunity to pass on their considerable skills and knowledge by offering guidance and advice to younger hunters. The following rules are in effect:

to participate, young hunters do not require the federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit;
young participants must comply with all existing safety and licensing requirements found in the Firearms Act and provincial hunting regulations;
participants must be accompanied by a licensed mentor (who is not a minor);
mentors may not hunt or carry a firearm, and may accompany no more than one young hunter;
only young hunters may hunt when Waterfowler Heritage Days fall outside of the regular open seasons; and
daily bag limits are outlined in the Bag and Possession Limits table below, and include footnotes g, k and l."

So did you report this incident?

I've had a distain for hunters since the invent of the 3, then 4 wheelers. 'Cause now any man can go where no lazy man had been before.:p

And how else do you think a person could get 200lbs of bait out to a bear stand. Using ATV's for work purposes has nothing to do with being lazy. Or how do you expect older hunters with mobility limitations using ATV's to get out to hunt??

Thread title should be "This is why SOME people hate hunters".

Most of us have the brains to understand that the evil or unpleasant actions or attitudes of a small minority do not entitle us to "hate" everyone from that group. So why phrase this like an anti would?

I think he was referring to lazy people, not everybody who rides a 4 wheeler. You can usually tell just by looking at them

I kind of wonder how you guys manage to carry out a moose 5km or Evan 1km I mean really without a ATV ore Argo honestly
How many can debone and smoke Moose to lighten your pack I do but don't see too many people doing that these days
It's one of the Reasons I got the Rokons to pack my camp gear in and out plus packing meat out of the bush
I really can't imagine too many hiking into bush shooting a moose and packing it out quarters
One thing I have seen his whole quarters left by hunters in the bush why the hell would anyone shoot a moose way back in the bush and not pack it out
Its better to road hunt if you can't pack your game out
The rule of thumb : don't shoot if you can't pack it out

Another thing to keep in mind is how warm its is when hunting, the warmer the weather the quicker the animal has to be dealt with....why shoot it if the meat will spoil.

You're absolutely right
Two guys shoot a moose 5km translates into two days packing if they don't Debone and smoke the meat
Things get interesting when both guys shoot a moose each
Now your looking at 4 days of packing and plus packing up your camp
This doesn't include time spent hunting before you go wandering off into the bushes you really have to think about what you're doing and if you're in doubt don't shot
Hunting the bush and swamps is productive but it's also a big commitment in time and energy that should not be taken lightly

How did these people hunt before the invention of ATV's? Maybe that's how they still should.

Horses If ya hate trucks ATV Argos Rokons thers always a horse
The horse and Rokon can pretty much cover the same territory but the horse is not evil like the Rokon

I would sure love to see some of you City guys trying to explain to a city bylaw officer how you have to have a horse in your parking stall Haahaa

When your in your 70's let us all know how you make out with a downed animal a km off in the bush. Maybe then you may understand the difference between being able to get out to hunt or not. Pretty sad that some people consider hunters with mobility challenges are lazy.
