We had a much better goose hunt this morning, taking 18 white fronted geese, 3 Canada geese, and 3 snow geese.

Didn't hear much shooting here in the Delta for opening day, but it was almost a Blue Bird kinda day...
Well scratch that just heard a volley of shots ,lol.
Prolly honkers, but did some Waves flying high four days before opening and have heard of some Cacklers around too.
There has been some mention of not many juveniles being spotted as of yet, but it is opening day after all.
If the steel ain't flying the birds ain't falling.

And after losing one field the evening before the hunt because the landowner was moving bales, and my backup field because the geese just didn't show up last night, I had about 30 minutes before dark to find anther field. I was five minutes from town, and had pretty much given up, when I found a field full of Canada geese along the highway. Fortunately the landowner lived nearby and was working in the yard, and I had permission 15 minutes later, in time to have another look at the field to plan the morning hunt. The last minute scramble paid off with twenty three Canadas, and four white fronted geese.

Wow that looks like great time

We lucked out, on my first outing in the last 10 years, few weekends ago around Kitchener area. None were active

Will try in few weeks as the weather gets colder

You pluck them or use that handy dandy tool The Bird Hitch?
Nice haul !

Not many Green Heads in that brace or two of ducks ;)
Man, wish I was there to witness the sights, the sounds and the smells....
Thanks for sharing that great event stubblejumper.
On a slightly differant note there has been a sighting or three of a King Eider in the Tsawwassen area this past week and I got to see it.
Didnt need the 3000k Swaro some of the Bird Watchers where packing around either .

The ducks were local birds, we aren't seeing many of the northern birds yet. The temperatures are dropping dramatically , and we should be seeing the northern birds very soon. This was the first hunt where we got into the greater Canada Geese, and we limited out early, so we stayed around to shoot some ducks. We had so many geese coming in, that we could have probably shot two limits.

Here is a sample from a group of guys who shot these the other morning.

Hope this works out.
The first one the wad from 3inch BB's is seen to the lower left, but in the actual picture on his Apple NoteBook one can actually see the shot in the air along with a pellet or two in the bird.
The second picture is the mornings shoot of eight guys with 80 birds....
Shared for mutual enjoyment...
