This place lacks a Mosin presence!

I am become Bubba, the sporterizer of milsurps...

(to be fair, the last two inches of the barrel on this 91/30 was a pitted mess inside and out, like someone had stored it barrel-down in salt water - chopping it was an act of mercy)

Materials:
- Boyds Prairie Hunter stock (bedded at the recoil lug and tang, barrel channel enlarged to free float the barrel)
- Hi-Lux 2-7x LER scope in Burris Zee medium rings, using ATI low-profile 3/8" dovetail to picatinny adapters
- 91/30 with barrel cut and re-crowned at 23.5" and a trigger polish job (still long and heavy, but smooth)

Looks purty. Hows it shoot?

Thanks! I haven't taken it out yet, it's been my winter tinkering project. Once it warms up a few degrees I'll take it to the range and find out if all I've done is turn a sow's ear into a shorter sow's ear ;)

Today I discovered that an M44 is considerably shorter the a M91/30. How about that?

It's not the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of fight in the dog.

That is wrong. They have weight classes for a reason. It's not a fare fight for the little people. Unless they are using a key board. Ha ha

Sorry buddy

Let's keep this thread relevant to Mosins okay? The drivel between actual on topic posts really mucks things up.

I'm looking for some mosin accessories if anyone wants to sell. I have an ad in the ee. Lookin for a sling for 91/30, ammo pouch, and stripper clips.

Yeah a mosin area to bs in!! I have two Mosins, both 91/30s one is SA marked and is all matching except the mag and butt plate, the other is all matching except the bolt. I think both are 1942 vintage. The non matching bolt unit Im going to mount a LER type scope on a scout picatinny setup. I managed to drift out the pins on the rear sight block exposing the 3"long -11mm(or 3/8") dove tail rail underneath. Use a nail punch to get them pins going!! I noticed the rail is slightly tapered so Im not sure how that will fit. Any scope suggestions? I see one of our comrades has done it and was wondering what the opinion is of others who have tried this. PS no mosins were hurt in this experiment ..Cheers

I haven't hit the range with it yet, but I'm very impressed with the view through the Hi-Lux 2-7x (Wolverine has them in stock). I was worried that the rings would slip forward so I dremeled a divot on each side of the rear rail adapter to brace it against a roll pin through the rear pin hole. I'll see if that holds up or if it needs something more substantial.

If you are removing the sight base from pre-war Mosins you have to pay attention. Some are held with pins (like the war time ones), some have a small set screw and pins, and some have a set screw, pins and are soldered. All can be removed if you put enough effort into it but the soldered ones are a challenge. Try removing the base before you buy the scope mount to save yourself a head ache.

Thanks I got lucky and just needed a nail punch to start the pins out. Took a little bit of persuasion but they came out surprisingly easy. The scope will be the clincher. It will have to have a good warranty.LOL. I know the kick on these mosins can be quite strong and a cheapo scope will not make it. By the way Pop thats a good idea using the roll pin holes. What size roll pins did you use? How much was your scope and how is the eye relief? And last but not least, does the scopet have a warranty? I figure it will need about 9'' of relief at least. Got a 11mm scope rail off amazon for 10 bucks along with a TRS25 red dot for 120 so ill try that combo til I can get the LER scope figured out Cheers. And good to see some enthusiasts coming out of the rubble. Nice shot placement, fiddler!!

$189 from Wolverine, with a limited life time warranty: http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/10381/Hi-Lux-ATR-Long-Eye-Relief-2-7x32-Matte.aspx

The eye relief was perfect for me with the scope approximately centred on the dovetail at 2x, but I have to lean forward on the stock just a little at 7x.
