LOTS of SKS, VZ/CZ talk but the mighty Mosin only sees a trickle of attention.
Little in way of stickies and show and tell threads too!

The recent M44/M38 insurgence has been a blessing, and I realize discussions of the 91/30 may have been covered to endless extents, but C'mon guys! Let's revel in these fine pieces of history a bit more around here. You know you love Em!

I just got one today from Lebarons for $156. Everything matches but the stock and the bayo. It has a 1943 stamp and i think it maybe an Izzy but im not a 100%. Where can i find a proper sling for her it can be a repro i just want a decent one and not some junk.

You gotta love mosins, they are so ugly yet beautiful. And as much as I don't want to I really feel like chopping one down and D&T it.

Post a WTB on the exchange. I think they are quite easy to come by. If not, you'll find them on ebay.

Absolutely need more mosin info. Like this and evanphi's CT thread - report in the deals. I'm hunting for a good condition 30's 91/30. I also once saw a laminate stock in the EE (not Boyd's) Where did that come from.

Mosins are THE red rifle. No offence to the diehard milsurp crowd but tired of being flamed for wanting a recoil pad or other modding to make better shooters. Like I'd post there that I'm thinking of cutting the bayonet off my CS m44. The howls!! I'd like to see what mosin mods are out there.

I managed to find one for a decent price on the EE. They're roughly $20+ on eBay once shipping is factored in.

The Mosin Nagant 91/30 is an easy favorite to shoot. Kicks like a bloody mule and the 90-100 round mark gives you an awesome feeling of "how the hell did they do this all the time in WW2?" The M38 will be tested out this year and I hope it kicks every bit as hard! :)

Its the better shooter part that really grates. Most "better shooter mods" are based on looks, not tighter groups & usually increase group size. Folks would be further ahead to learn how the damned thing works & extract the best out of what was built into it to begin with. It does take work & time, so its not very popular here. I remember one gent who cut the last 4" off of his 91/30 to get it to shoot better. Had he bothered to do a little research, he could have remedied his problem by opening up the barrel channel & wrapping the barrel in oiled cloth. He sold it on the ee for $100.

So anyways.....back to our regularly scheduled positive based discussion.

I am really pumped about my recent M38 acquisition. I was never really attracted to the long 91/30 but I really took to the carbine version. Pics to come....

I'm feeling the sarcasm again...kicks like a bloody mule! Every time I hear that I just shake my head sadly...to be fair, my 13 year old daughter said it kicks a bit; more than the M39 anyhow.
Pull it in tight and hang on! I took my M44 out in the fall & tore the middle row out of a spam can with it and my M39; got the M44 so hot that the Cosmoline started to run.
Slight frecking on my arm the next day.

Edit; as an afterthought don't take it wrong, first Graveyard here and I'm a tad b*tchy from fatigue.
I like M/N's...I just don't think they kick that much;)

I've heard the recoil described as being between a .308 and a 12g. Seems about right, and in my opinion... just right :)

I have a 1929 91/30 and I love it! I was blown away by the accuracy and smoothness. It's also a good looking rifle and feels great coming up to shoulder. Well balanced shooting machine. Definitely one of my favourite all time. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
