This seems to good to be true

In Fantasyland, if AI released a 30-round magazine for their bolt rifles, and Joe Smith designed a semi-auto rifle that would function with the 30-round .308 AI magazine, would that make the magazine prohibited even for the bolt gun? Or is that just what the RCMP would declare, to hell with the law?

First you must remember that you're trying to make sense of something nonsensical (our gun laws). Don't try too hard ;)

Secondly, if a new bolt gun or pistol comes out and has magazines manufactured specifically for it with a 10rnd capacity, and those mags just HAPPEN to fit into an AR15 it's fine- as demonstrated clearly in this thread. However, if a bolt/pump/pistol is released and advertised as being able to use AR15 mags, all bets are off. Magazines manufactured for that gun will always be deemed as AR15 mags and hence restricted to 5rnd cap.

Remember that the magazine itself is subject to these restrictions, and not the gun it attaches to. If it was the other way around, the 7615 argument would be valid and we'd all be buying 7615 high-cap mags.

It just seems that the RCMP has a lot of power, and can declare anything it wants without answering to anyone. What would stop them from making up another argument in the situation you posted last?

Don't get me wrong, I consider this progress, but I just don't see what kind of logic or rules are being followed.

This is the government, RCMP, and federal legislation....logic, rationality, and reasonableness need not apply.

:D

Agreed 100%. They made a sound decision based on the laws and facts presented to them and we should be quite happy with it. I'm glad they looked at the raw facts instead of coming up with backwards logic as to why such a magazine should not be permitted for sale.

Thumbs up for RCMP.

If I was a AR owner I would still be a little nervous using these...They may be legal but if the average cop saw you with a 10 round AR mag you would have a lot to explain. I'd stick with the 5 rounders myself just to avoid such a situation.

Perhaps you should also stick to airguns.

They are offering the Tactipuls for them. The photos of the Tactipuls I have seen make them looks a far bit bigger then Magpul ranger plates. I think with the Tactipuls they will be close to the 20 rd. mag body size and they should work in those pouchs.

The LAR-15 10 Round Magazine can have a 10 round capacity regardless of the firearm you use them in...
-Questar

So one could pop one these into a non-restricted XCR?

Oh word no. You'd go straight to hell for that one. Don't even store them in the same vault, or the cops will bust down the door.

It's not as easy as just writing "Pistol Mag" on the mags and making a short gun.

You have to make and advertise the firearm as a pistol. Then you have to make the magazines from scratch specfically for that pistol.
People are saying that the decision is based on the rules, facts and laws.

Please explain this to me because I'm having a hard time understanding.

The 10/32 9mm Promags were designed as a cheap alternative for Colt mags, not as a pistol mag.

The 10 round mag that Questar is bringing in appears to be old postban mags designed for the AWB in the states, not for a pistol.

Check out RRA website, you'll not see any Promags or 10 round 5.56 mags in any of their pistols.

So please, explain the facts so that I can understand.

I suspect that would be difficult. If you already can't accept that RRA have provided documentation explaining they have manufactured these mags for pistol use, what use would our explaination be.

If you would like to continue making your case to the RCMP, perhaps you can get them to reverse themselves.

Do I smell the demand for an AR10 pistol to be made????????????? ;)
LOL, .308 pistol. That's great! Don't they make AR10 magazines out of M14 mags? Does anyone know if they're interchangable? Or have they been significantly altered?

Now who will make a block for the damn 10rd mag so it will fit in gear?

10rds is fine -- but training on an oddly shapped mag is useless.

I am going to try and get some empty shells of the 30 rounders and then cut the bottoms down and weld em to the 10 rounders to give it the look and length of a 30.

I'll see how that works out.
