This Stock ?

I have looked online at the P14 P17 and I just don’t see this stock as one of those . This stock is a modern looking sportsman’s rifle / hunting rifle . It’s not a military rifle .The stock is checkered and it looks factory
Surely you’re not that daft? A sporterized military rifle. No one here is suggesting it’s a military stock

I have aftermarket stocks such as you have. I have a p-17 that copies the design of the Weatherby Mark 5 stock. That stock is meant for a military rifle that was customized. Multiple aftermarket stocks where and still are available that fit many popular military surplus rifles. They don’t look anything like original military stocks and most are direct fit to these barrels and receivers.

As I’m a hunter first and not a firearms expert I don’t have knowledge in the the field of sporterizing military rifles perhaps you would care to share your knowledge ! I’m listening !

So I’m going to guess . You take an action and barrel from a military rifle and produce a stock for said rifle that is more suitable for hunting ?
Again
I’m listening er reading !

Yes sometimes a military stock is just shortened and nose caps etc are tossed to make rifle lighter. Sometimes a whole new stock is manufactured and the military wood is tossed. It seems you have the latter.

Thank You mcpiper and Paul T !
So I need to find out what action and barrel was in that stock so that I could get the best fit with the stock ,with as little work to the stock as possible .

Any ideas ? Would I look for a new action and barrel ?

There is usually a few in the EE or #######. There was a sporter on gun#### for $250. Id try to find one that was drilled and tapped, reblued etc. As far as fitting the stock I'll leave that to someone more knowledge than me. Maybe someone near you has a P14 and would let you try to fit it on the stock to see what you're dealing with.

FI on the recoil pad denotes Firearms International, a company that, back in the 50's & 60's, imported a bunch of sporterized military actions, including Mauser 96's, Mauser 48's & Mauser 98's as well as P14's & M1917's.
Yours is likely one of the latter 2 which has had its trigger guard straightened.
Century International did the same thing in the '70's & 80's before they went all AK.

Thank You for that James Harrison ! I was hoping the but pad logo would possibly reveal something . Are there new actions that would drop in that stock without a huge amount of work ?

Hundreds of thousands of p14 and p17’s around. Your not going to find them new. They were used in WW1 and WW2. They were sold off as military surplus when newer and better rifles rifles became available. Not hard to find. I have two p17’s and two p14’s. Likely a couple in the EE under military surplus.

Look at post #9, that is in fact a 1917 BSA made Enfield with an aftermarket stock!

So, if you want to further this effort, you need to ascertain whether that stock was made to accept the standard bent floorplate, or whether it will accept a straightened floorplate, which was a common sporting modification. If you cant figure this out, take a pic or two of the forward action screw recess.

My stock has the floor plate straightened on it.

Well - Parker Hale did not make their own stocks, they bought them from Sile in Italy. So did a bunch of other British makers such as Churchill, Cogswell and Harrison, Alpine, etc. The giveaway is the skip line checkering. I dont think PH sported P-14s, BSA did, and I believe Cogswell and Harrison.
