can14, Didn't read all 12 pgs. of discussion, but were you aware 2 of VPD's 1928 Thompsons were Stainless Steel ? I SAW their 'rack' at 312 Main St. many years ago, and Sgt. in charge told me they were for "Protecting gold bullion shipments to China. Where the CN/CP rail ended at the docks, was where the 2 S/S was ones were deployed due to the 'salt air'." Many have called 'B.S.' on this saying 'S/S wasn't INVENTED yet !' , but in fact it was between 1912 & 1915. A friend of mine's uncle also has a 'Vintage' S/S 1928.
That WAS quite a 'rack' at VPD, all nicely wrapped in oiled cloth, Sgt. impressed the HELL out of me ! He also said 'to the best of his knowledge and inspection of each, they all appeared unfired.' ;-p , it is too 'drool' !
