Those were the days, my friend......

Here are some bullets that are older than I am, been on the self for along time. I have been thinking about doing a retro hunt with one of these I'm my savage 99f .300savage

I shot a lot of those Herter's bullets in my younger years, particularly the 30 cal 180 grain FB.
I have one, recovered from a moose, that is the most beautiful, perfect mushroom you have ever laid eyes on, lol.
It hit no bone, though. Shot from a 30-06 at around factory speeds.

I shot a few of the Gevelot bullets, but only in factory loadings, so no great numbers.
Cannot recollect for sure if I shot a deer with them or not, but believe I shot one in Salmon Arm when I lived there.

I also had a lot of Gevelot brass at one time, and it was excellent stuff.
Got it from Xelex explosives ( became Ammomart [now Higginson's])

Brings back fond memories!!

Sabre Tips... I still have some in .308 Winchester. As a kid I remember being excited every time we went to the Army & Navy in New Westminster because I could stand in front of all of the boxes of ammo and dream about which one would be best for shooting a deer, or moose etc.

This photo was taken in 1960 in Calabogie, Ontario..............I was only three at the time. Still deer can be hunted with dog's today in Ontario. Of course my dad is the handsome guy in the front row. (hunter in the black shirt)

Don't see alot of those old hunting hats anymore like the tallest fella in the back has on...I use to have one till it wore out...Best hat for walking through the bush, all other hats spend more time on the ground than on ones head..

Nowadays the yanks refer to them as "Jones" style caps. Whatever they are they are not the same style as the old ones we had years ago. Close but not the same. We just called them huntin hats. I still watch thrift stores and flea markets, garage sales etc hoping to find one to fit my big head. Some where out there an old country store has a faded one in the window in size 7.5 just for me.....
The big guy, far left, middle row looks like he is in witness protection from some heavy hitter activity.

Those hats are definitely still around. I'm almost 100% sure that I saw them at Canadian Tire this past year. I perfer the old Fudd Hat because it is made of wool which is quiet and keeps me warm, moreover, I'm very old school/fashion.

LOL!!!! Well you hit the nail on the head with your last sentence. That big guy in the back-left is Rocky Larouche who at the time of the photo was a Detective with the Cornwall City Police.....................coffee and donut's.

Those Jone's hats .......... :D
The one Red Green wears/wore.
Dad had one like that.
Holy bumping the ole nogg'ins memory.
They use to turn inside out for the red/orange display.
Great photos, keep them coming.

I still have one, in excellent condition. My father bought it in the mid 70's.

Dad and Old Harvey congradulating each other after they both shot and killed this whitetail buck. Photo taken in the late 50's. The good old Winchester Model 1894's chambered for the 30-30 sure brought down alot of deer from this camp, and many other camps.
