Thoughts and impressions: CZ 600 LUX

I am not as “triggered” by plastic as some :dancingbanana: nothing noteworthy to me about the trigger guard

Yes a scope would change the balance; but like I mentioned it is quite bad. As far as I know every modern bolt gun is designed to take a scopes but I will keep that in mind for the future lol. I can only guess but I’d stand but what I said, a heavy scope might help but it’s a balance point issue with the alloy receivers imo

With the price the Ruger American 7.62x39 is going for, and the thing is a pile of garbage, The CZ 600 Alpha in 7.62x39 should do just fine. If someone wants something like a 527 Carbine then they could just order the LUX in 7.62x39. I understand that CZ would void the warranty if you swapped the barrels yourself but the calibers are still very easy to swap by yourself. I don't care about warranty. For firearms, it's just a service that takes your gun away for half a year when you could fix the problem yourself faster and for cheaper than the freight cost.

Other than the CZ 527 (in 7.62x39) looking a lot nicer than the Ruger American Ranch, the RAR shoots lights out and is comparably accurate for less money.

I’m a huge CZ fan and think the CZ600 Alpha is not going to be any better than a RAR - and they are darn near the same price.

With aftermarket parts and and upgrades more available to the RAR, I give it the edge over the CZ600. You can buy the RAR and drop it into an MDT Chassis, use AICS magazines, all for less than what the Trail will cost.

Sadly I think CZ dropped the ball with the 600s as the 527s and 557s were extremely nice rifles for the price.

I have a feeling the Trail, and both the Alpha and Lux in 7.62x39, will sell like hotcakes. I still may get a 600 in 8x57, but I really wish the Alpha came with iron sights!!

Cool idea and they look great from a distance. All the CZs I’ve ever had shot really well, but I’d pass on this one. Too much plastic and the bolt release button is really sloppy, and the one I handled had a really rough action, like something was dragging. Who knows though, it could smooth up with some use. I do like that they went to a Rem700 pattern for scope mounts (CZ rings are stupid expensive). I also like the 20” barrel in 30-06. 22” would have been fine too, but no need for 24” barrels in non-magnum rifles.

I'm just looking at prices of these rifles and I'm shocked a little on the price of the alpha and Trail. Around $1000 for the Alpha and $1400 for the Trail. Considering the plastic quality parts, and the cheap stock I'd expect them the Alpha to come in more around $800-850. At the $1000 dollar range I don't see them as really worth it. The Trail at $1400 seems like a giant waste of money when you can go get a Ruger American hunter for $1200, they shoot great and have a high quality stock on them, though I guess if you needed it to compact itself the Ruger won't do that. But still, it's a high price point for what your getting in this 2moa guaranteed Trail gun.

The only one I see reasonably priced is this Lux version. And I honestly think it should be going for $1000, 200 less then what it's up for. It's got lower quality plastic parts non of my other CZ's have. The wood is poorly finished when compared to my other rifles from both CZ and from other manufactures meaning they cheeped out on finishing. It's like they honestly went for lower quality but higher price points. If they continue down this route we could see them run into similar customer perception issues like Remington did. That quality was lowered prices were raised and the brand image degraded to being known as cheap garbage rifles. At least CZ knew enough to recall when there was a safety concern. Remington on the other hand, well I think their lack of scruples is obvious and shameful.

The same argument can be made about the Tikka T3x. Welcome to the new world order my friend. The 600's have some very redeeming qualities (safety, CRF, trigger adjustment, etc.), and I wouldn't count them out. The Trail will probably sell like hotcakes. Yes, the days of blued metal and nicely finished wood are over. The EE has thousands of older rifles for sale if that's your sort of thing--and don't worry, they don't move fast, or at all, unless they're garage sale priced or "rare". :)

Prices are not about subjective value, but a function of supply and demand. From what I understand as of now Trail is selling faster than a non restricted semi auto in 308 )

I am digging my CZ 600 Trail in .223/5.56mm thus far. Although I've only had it out once, it shot sub-MOA with 5 rounds of Hornady 153 gr VMAX at 100m. It has great potential as a 'yote slaying, do-it-all truck-gun. I just wish that it came in .300 Blk, which would be the perfect 150 gr .30 cal pill out to 400m.....

I didn't know there is 153 gr Vmax for .223?

Your CZ looks nice! Is the action operating operating smoothly on full factory mag, or is some tweaking required?

What can I say? That's what is sez on the box....

The action is smooth on a full 5-round (or 10-round) magazine. Not Tikka smooth mind you, but smooth enough. There is zero tweaking required. I am using mostly MFT 10-round polymer mags, as metal STANAG mags (other then eLander) do not lock in. Lancer AWM hybrid magazines also work, as seen in the photo.
